ITS RECAP TIME!

BENT CREEK BRAWL

Saturday’s event at Bent Creek was anything but routine. What began as a competitive round quickly turned into a true test of patience and resilience, as a three-hour rain delay brought play to a halt. But in a showing that defines the spirit of this tour, all 38 players stayed, waited it out, and returned to finish what they started. Through changing conditions and a long day on the course, the field proved that this was more than just a tournament—it was a display of commitment, grit, and love for the game.

Let’s get into how it all unfolded.

Champ Flight: Jack Rodish (74)

Jack wasted no time getting things started, opening his round with a birdie on the par-5 1st hole. He carried that momentum throughout the front nine, adding two more birdies to build a four-shot lead over Eddie Roberts heading into the back.

The closing stretch brought a bit of drama, as a 7 on the par-4 17th briefly tightened things up. But Jack responded in style, finishing with an emphatic birdie on the 18th to put the tournament out of reach.

A strong performance from start to finish—well done, Jack.

Albatross Flight: Dustin Brack (74)

The Albatross Flight delivered a similar story, with another impressive winning score of 74. For Dustin Brack, it marked a personal best in competition—an outstanding achievement.

Like Jack, Dustin came out strong, carding three birdies on the front nine to build a commanding lead. By the turn, he had stretched his advantage to six strokes over Dan Passen and was firmly in control.

Travis Helms made a push on the back nine, but despite a few bumps—including a 7 on the par-4 11th—Dustin maintained his composure and kept the field at bay.

In the end, Dustin secured a convincing ten-stroke victory in dominant fashion. An impressive round and a milestone performance—well done, Dustin!

Eagle Flight: Scott Lee (84)

In stark contrast to the other flights, the Eagle Flight was a tight competition from start to finish. Scott Lee found himself tied for the lead with his good friend Jason Sparks through the front nine, with neither player able to create much separation in a deep, 10-player field.

As the round turned to the back nine, the pressure remained high. A clutch birdie on the challenging 10th hole proved to be the turning point, giving Scott the momentum he needed to finally create some space.

From there, he stayed steady down the stretch, pulling away to secure a three-stroke victory. The win marks Scott’s second in a row (different flights), continuing his strong run through the “West Side Swing.”

Well played, Scott!

Birdie Flight: Craig Mullins (90)

The Birdie Flight belonged to a first-timer who simply didn’t make mistakes. Craig Mullins put together a smooth, controlled round, doing exactly what the course demanded.

By keeping big numbers off the card and staying steady throughout, Craig quickly separated himself from the field. When the dust settled, his round of 90 was good for a commanding nine-stroke victory.

An impressive debut performance—well done, Craig!

Par Flight: Pat LaPage (92)

Another back-to-back winner emerged in the Par Flight, as Pat LaPage once again found his way to the top of the leaderboard.

Trailing Greg Den Boef by four strokes heading into the back nine, Pat had his back against the wall—but he was ready for the challenge. With a steady inward nine of 44, he chipped away at the lead while others began to slip.

In a tight finish, Pat edged out his buddy Jim Davis to secure a one-stroke victory and continue his impressive run.

Well done, Pat!

RUMBLE AT EAGLE HARBOR

A perfect mix of familiar faces and new contenders set the stage for an exciting event at Eagle Harbor. From dramatic upsets to clutch playoffs and dominant performances, Saturday delivered a little bit of everything.

Let’s get into the recap.

Champ Flight: Eric Shin (73) – Playoff Winner

At the halfway point, this looked like a completely different story. Devin Parnell appeared to have the tournament firmly in hand, especially after a blistering 3-under 33 on the front nine. It felt like a runaway—but Eric Shin’s steady play kept him within striking distance.

Devin stepped onto the 18th tee needing only a triple bogey to secure the victory. In a tough turn of events, he walked off with an 8, forcing a sudden-death playoff and sending the Champ Flight back to the first tee.

In the playoff, Eric stayed composed and closed it out with a par on the opening hole, securing his second consecutive victory and third win of the season.

Credit to Devin as well—despite the heartbreaking finish, his composure and attitude never wavered. That level of resilience speaks volumes.

Great competition all around!

Albatross Flight: Eddie Roberts (77)

The birdies were flying in the Albatross Flight. It had been a while since Eddie Roberts made his presence felt, but sometimes all it takes is a small adjustment to reignite that competitive flame.

Eddie started the round with a steady, almost “boring” style of golf—something new for him. Two bogeys and a birdie on his opening nine kept him in control, but the leaderboard stayed tight. Zack Tutak, Elliott Vandyke, and first-timer Tim Johnson all remained within four strokes, ready to capitalize on any mistake.

That moment came on #14, when Eddie found trouble off the tee, leading to a triple bogey and shrinking his lead to just one shot. The pressure was on.

But instead of letting it unravel, Eddie responded like a seasoned competitor. He drove the green on #17 and calmly two-putted for birdie, finishing his final stretch strong at one under par.

In the end, Eddie pulled away to secure his first victory of the season in impressive fashion.

Congratulations, Eddie!

Eagle Flight: Travis Helms (79)

While some players got off to rocky starts in the Eagle Flight, it ultimately produced the tightest competition of the day. First-timer Travis Helms found himself in a battle down the stretch against Alan Clark and John Brophy.

Heading into the closing holes, Travis was tied with Alan and holding a slim one-shot advantage over John. The pressure was high, and every shot mattered.

In an impressive display of consistency, neither Travis nor Alan recorded a bogey until the 17th hole. That moment proved to be the turning point, as Travis maintained his composure when it mattered most.

In the end, he held on for a hard-fought two-stroke victory in one of the closest finishes of the event.

Birdie Flight: Scott Lee (83) – Playoff Winner

Another playoff? Yes, please. Scott Lee and LaMont Battle went back and forth all day in one of the most competitive matchups of the event.

Scott trailed by one stroke heading into the back nine and found himself down as many as three before making a clutch birdie on the difficult par-3 15th to keep the pressure on.

A key moment came on #13, where a rules decision was needed after Scott hit two balls over the wall. After everything was sorted out, the two players finished tied, sending them back to the first tee for a sudden-death playoff.

Scott completed the comeback in style, securing the win with a par on the first playoff hole—earning his first victory of the season.

Well done!

Par Flight: Pat LaPage (92)

Consistency and avoiding big numbers—that’s the winning formula in the Par Flight. It certainly helps when the course feels like home, and for Pat LaPage, Eagle Harbor provided exactly that advantage.

Pat came out strong, building a commanding six-stroke lead through the opening nine over fellow Eagle Harbor resident Jeff McKinney.

The margin tightened slightly on the back nine as Jim Davis found his rhythm and made a push, but the early lead proved too much to overcome. Pat’s steady play throughout the round kept him firmly in control.

In the end, LaPage secured his first victory of the season in convincing fashion.

Congratulations, Pat!

As all of the players saw on Saturday, we had a guest at the registration table and on the first tee. I would like to extend a huge thank you to Julian Giglio for spending some valuable time with us this weekend. Please feel free to reach out to Julian for all of your photography needs!

Jacksonville Grinters,

Our first Major Championship of the season is in the books! Thank you to the 38 players that joined us on Saturday for this event. The weather was perfect and the course showed its got teeth even when the elements aren’t a factor.

Let’s skedaddle into this recap!

Champ Flight – David Watkins Jr (75)

Three events this season, three different winners! The Champ Flight in Jacksonville has proven to be a place where anyone has a chance to win on any given day.

Birdies started flying early, with Devin, Tyler, and Abner each carding one within the first three holes. But as history often reminds us, it’s not how you start—it’s how you finish. Eric Shin set the pace through the front nine, collecting three birdies and posting a two-under-par 34. David Watkins Jr. stayed within striking distance, finishing the front nine with two birdies of his own.

The momentum shifted on the back nine. Eric opened with a double bogey on No. 10 and added another bogey on No. 13. Capitalizing on the opportunity, David rolled in a clutch 25-foot birdie from the collar on No. 14 to take a one-shot lead.

The closing stretch at Queens Harbour is known for producing drama, and this event was no exception. Eric pushed his second shot on No. 17 into the hazard, resulting in his second double bogey on the back nine. On No. 18, a misjudgment of the wind sent David’s approach into the water, but he responded with a composed up-and-down to secure a one-shot victory.

Congratulations!

Albatross Flight – Jack Rodish (78)

Several new faces entered the fray in the Albatross Flight for this event, but when the dust settled, Jack stood alone at the top.

Fresh off back-to-back wins in the Eagle Flight—at Jacksonville’s St. Johns and Orlando’s Clermont National—Dustin Brack made his Albatross Flight debut. The competition was strong, but Jack quickly set the tone.

Steady play and an eagle on No. 5 helped Jack build a three-shot lead over Scott Allen at the turn. On the back nine, he elevated his game even further, carding two 2’s on the challenging par 3s to pull away and secure a commanding seven-shot victory.

Great playing, Jack!

Eagle Flight – Joe Larama (84)

What a strong finish this turned out to be. Austen Giacobone appeared to be in control for much of the front nine, even building a three-shot lead. But Joe wasn’t backing down without a fight.

A steady three-over-par back nine from Joe proved to be the difference. Despite Austen closing his round with four straight pars, he couldn’t keep pace down the stretch.

Remaining calm and avoiding the big number all day, Joe walked away with a four-shot victory.

A fun battle to watch—great playing, guys!

Birdie Flight – Edward Brack (87)

Another fun battle down to the finish. Edward found himself trailing by one after the opening nine, carding a 44 to Kyle Risner’s 43. The script quickly flipped with a three-shot swing on the difficult 10th hole.

Kyle steadied the ship and stepped onto the 18th tee with a chance to close it out. Unfortunately, a double bogey on the home hole opened the door, and Edward capitalized to secure a two-shot victory—his second of the season after his win at Deercreek in November.

These two are quickly building quite the on-course rivalry.

Well done, Edward!

Par Flight – Forrest King (92)

An incredibly hot front-nine start from Stephen McManus had him holding a five-shot lead over Jim Davis at the turn. But in true Queens Harbour fashion, no lead is safe until the final putt drops.

Forrest King came out swinging on the back nine, carding five pars and a bogey to match Stephen’s front-nine score of 43. That strong closing stretch proved too much for the rest of the field to overcome, as Forrest pulled away to claim a six-shot victory.

The win marks Forrest’s second in a row, earning him a promotion to the Birdie Flight for his next event.

Congratulations, Forrest!

Jacksonville Grinters,

Event #2 has concluded, and despite a brisk morning, the competition was anything but cold. Plenty of great performances across the board—let’s get into the recap.

Champ Flight – Eric Shin (73)

1-Hole Playoff

Eric Shin wasted no time finding the winner’s circle this season—but it didn’t come easy. Locked in a back-and-forth battle with Jon Passen from the opening tee, neither player was able to create much separation as the lead stayed within two shots all day.

Eric briefly gained breathing room when Jon carded an untimely double bogey on the par-3 14th, but the fight was far from over. Jon answered in a big way, rolling in a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to force a playoff.

In sudden death, Eric rose to the moment, closing out the victory and securing his first win of the season.

Congratulations, Eric!

Albatross Flight – Tyler Normandin (80)

4-Hole Playoff

After two events, it’s clear the Albatross Flight has developed a must-watch rivalry. Tyler Normandin and Jack Rodish have been trading blows all season, and the First Coast Open delivered yet another classic.

The two couldn’t have taken more different paths to the tie. Jack stumbled out of the gate, starting +7 through the first three holes, while Tyler stayed steady throughout the front nine. Jack mounted a strong charge on the back, building a three-shot lead with just two holes to play—but Tyler wasn’t done yet.

When the dust settled, they were deadlocked after 18 holes and headed back to the first tee. Four extra holes were needed before Tyler finally sealed the win with a clutch par on the par-5 fourth.

Outstanding battle, guys—we can’t wait to watch this rivalry all season long.

Eagle Flight – Dustin Brack (79)

Dustin Brack set the tone early with an opening birdie and never looked back. With multiple players lurking within striking distance, any mistake could have flipped the leaderboard—but Dustin refused to open the door.

A rock-solid back nine highlighted by five consecutive pars allowed him to pull away, earning a four-shot victory and his first win of the year.

Well done, Dustin!

Birdie Flight – John Brophy (87)

First-event nerves showed early for John Brophy, as he found himself trailing after the opening nine holes. But the back nine told a very different story.

John fired a strong 43 coming home, surging past Atlanta Tour member Chris Smith to claim a three-shot victory. In one of the tightest flights of the day, all competitors finished within five strokes of the lead.

Great job, John—keep up the momentum!

Par Flight – Forrest King (96)

The Par Flight delivered a great battle from the opening hole, as Forrest King and defending champion Will Kapcio went toe-to-toe early. The two turned in a deadlock at the halfway point, but a punishing back nine began to separate the field.

As others faltered, Forrest stayed steady and emerged atop the leaderboard to claim the win.

With no birdies recorded in the flight, the $80 collected for the skins game will carry over—giving the Par Flight a nice boost heading into Queens Harbour.
