As you may have noticed, every Diamond Dogs jersey has the number 6 on the shoulder.
That number honors Luke Day, the son of our founder, Scott Day, and a member of the original Diamond Dogs team. #6 is one way we stay connected to the roots of this program and recognize the people who helped build it from the very beginning.
It also reflects something important to us as an organization — continuing to bring awareness to mental health and helping reduce the stigma around it.
Baseball gives us a unique opportunity to connect with our players in a meaningful way. Whether it’s before a practice, a car ride home, or after a game, it can open the door for conversations that go beyond the field. We encourage families to use #6 as a simple starting point to check in, ask questions, and keep those conversations going.
If you are interested in getting more involved, here are some ways to support:
• Save the date: Luke Day Memorial Tournament — July 17–18
• Start a conversation with your player about #6
• Make a donation in Luke’s honor:
Venmo:
Checks: LFD Memorial Tourney, 902 S Fawn Drive, Mahomet, IL 61853
• Volunteer at the tournament: [email protected]
Our 7U Head Coach, Cory Christensen, was on that very first team with Luke and is heavily involved in the efforts to honor Luke - once a Diamond Dog, always a Diamond Dog.
