Celebrating an Incredible 2024 at Hupstate

Big News for the Festival

We’re excited to announce that the Hupstate Festival is switching to an every-other-year format, with the next festival to occur in 2026.

The Hupstate Festival is a high-impact event with world-class circus programming, and we are confident that this new structure will allow us to grow sustainably for years to come.

The Saltonstall x Circus Culture residency is designed to provide a generous and spacious environment for the development of the circus arts in NY State and/or Native Nations based therein. It does this by giving individual circus artists from the region time and space with an idea or project of their choosing that they want to develop, polish, investigate, or work on.

Requirements:
Artists must be 21 or older.
Artists must live in New York State or Native Nations therein. (This includes New York City.)
Definition and contact info:
We define a circus artist as anyone involved in any aspect of art making, creative problem solving, or innovation within the circus arts.
This may include designers, dramaturges, choreographers, directors, circademics, writers, photographers, riggers, performers, teaching artists, and more.

It's Jekyll & Hyde with a twist. Meet Edward Hyde. He has rented a theatre, put on his fanciest suit and hired a couple of actors to tell his side of the story. His lofty ambitions to be a superstar careen off the rails when his special guest is late and his actors go off script. Can he keep his emotions in check and pull off the greatest event of the century? It’ll be hilarious, acrobatic, and for the audience, maybe a little dangerous.
