After almost 7 incredible years, Sip & Sonder’s Inglewood flagship coffeehouse will be closing its doors on December 31.

We know this space has always been bigger than us. It has been a home for community—an embodiment of Black diasporic joy, warmth, creativity, and presence. A place where people came not just for coffee, but to be seen, to rest, to connect, and to imagine.

Together, we’ve witnessed so much—first dates and forever loves, marriages and separations, deep friendships, firstborns and secondborns, heartbreaks and healing, intellectual debates, laughter, tears, and countless quiet moments over coffee that mattered more than anyone realized at the time.

Change—especially change that follows years of love and shared history—is tender. And while we are sentimental, we are also deeply proud and full of things to celebrate.

We landed on Market Street in 2017 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to make an impact through coffee. We opened Sip & Sonder in Inglewood to show ourselves and our community that it is possible to create spaces designed for us, by us—that we deserve beautiful spaces, excellent coffee, and room to simply exist and be seen. And we did exactly that. And we will continue to do so.

To everyone who has supported us in this flagship location: thank you. Every visit. Every cup. Every conversation. Every program. Every smile. Every moment of trust and presence—it all mattered more than we can say.

While we will no longer have a physical home in Inglewood, Sip & Sonder is still here. We are still roasting and distributing coffee—Sip & Sonder–branded and white label. We are still catering. Our Downtown LA location remains open, and we’d love to see you there. Most of all, we are excited to share how Sip & Sonder continues to evolve as we lean into what’s next.

We move forward. We pivot. We grow. We trust change.

Laila Aguilar-Charles, a Los Angeles–based multimedia artist of Black and Mexican heritage, weaves cycles, identity, and social justice into visual form. Shaped by her roots in South Central, her practice merges photography and mixed media as a language of resistance—challenging stigma while lifting voices too often unheard. Her current project, “Into the Flow of Womanhood,” traces the intimate and collective rhythms of menstruation, confronting barriers to equity faced by minority women in South Central Los Angeles. Through community-rooted installations, Aguilar transforms private pain into shared visibility, reframing cycles not as burdens, but as vessels of resilience, connection, and power. ✨

🇲🇽 We’re bringing Sip & Sonder to Mexico City for SACRED GROUNDS: FROM SOIL TO SOUL, a weeklong pop-up celebrating connection across cultures, ancestry, and the journey of coffee from origin to cup. From coffee tastings, storytelling, and ancestral walks to movement, vinyl sound, and personal altar curation—each experience honors the people, places, and rituals that shape our shared journey. From the soils of Ethiopia and Mexico to the cups we share today, it’s a celebration of people, land, and culture.

Guided by the and .mx teams, you’ll take part in the ritual of coffee cupping—an intimate tasting practice rooted in curiosity and connection of Native Mezcla, our new Sidama, Ethiopia–Veracruz, Mexico blend. Together, we’ll explore the flavors, aromas, and textures that carry the stories of the land and the people behind each bean.

Sacred Grounds: From Soil to Soul is a weeklong pop-up in Mexico City celebrating connection across cultures, ancestry, and the journey of coffee from origin to cup. The activation brings together creative, cultural, and culinary experiences that invite participants to explore ancestral rituals, diasporic storytelling, sensory engagement, and communal gathering—all anchored in our shared humanity and the rituals surrounding coffee. The experience honors the interconnectedness of people, land, and culture, tracing coffee’s path from the soils of Ethiopia and Mexico to the cups we share today.

Born and raised in Chiapas, Mexico, Rosalba grew up surrounded by coffee—and chose to dedicate her life to transforming how it’s grown, processed, and valued. She founded Mayan Harvest Coffee to uplift farmers in Bella Vista, investing in training, quality control, and new opportunities for women in her community.
