20+ Years of Unparalleled Art Show Experiences

The 2023 Indian Wells Arts Festival show is on hiatus and will return for an exciting Spring of 2024 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden - Home of the BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament. Each year more than 200 award winning artists transform the magnificent path-lined plaza into a spectacular in-person festival experience. Indian Wells is conveniently

located in the heart of the Southern California -- Palm Springs/Desert Resort communities. Festival Producer Dianne Funk states: “The Indian Wells Arts Festival is designed to create a festive event experience and community celebration. The creative synergy of demonstrating artists, local sponsors, exhibitors and non-profit partners enhances our venue with vibrant activity. Join the synergy; validate the vision: See Art at work…it is fun, exciting and dynamic!”

More than 10,000 attend the festival, from local residents, families and tourists to serious buyers and collectors. With a celebrated reputation for its quality and wide variety of fine art and quality craft, artists travel from throughout the country to participate. Artists are on hand to explain and demonstrate the techniques that created hundreds of pieces of one-of-a-kind artwork available for purchase. Offerings include painting, drawing, ceramics, glass, photography, sculpture, jewelry, apparel and hand-crafted wares. Everyone loves to watch the on-site demonstrations including glass blowing, painting, weaving, large scale stone sculpturing, larger-than-life mural painting, sand sculpture, weaving and pottery throwing. An enjoyable and fun relaxing day can be found strolling and exploring the Festival. A Gourmet Market Place offers gourmet specialties, children’s activities, live musical entertainment and refreshments are ongoing throughout the show. A variety of special exhibits have added fun and whimsy over the nearly two decades the event has connected enthusiasts with artists:

Glass-blower Bruce Freund transforms sand into colorful, delicate hand-blown glass art with temperatures of more than 2,100 degrees in his portable furnace. Fun interactive photo-ops for attendees presented by the Cathedral City High School Digital Arts and Technology Academy (DATA) and event sponsor, Hot Purple Energy. Ranked as one of the nation’s Top 100 Best Fine Art Shows of the Decade by Sunshine Artist magazine; a Top 40 Fine Art Show in the nation by Greg Lawler’s Art Fair SourceBook; the #3 SoCal Getaway by Examinor.com; and “Best of the Best” Art Festivals by Palm Springs Life magazine. May this day be filled with kindness and gratitude.

"Thanksgiving," c. 1935, Doris Lee

Doris Lee’s bustling scene of women preparing a Thanksgiving feast became the object of national headlines when it was first exhibited at the Art Institute in 1935 and won the prestigious Logan Purchase Prize.

The themes of Thanksgiving, rural customs, and family life, which Lee painted in a deliberately folksy manner, would have had great appeal to a country still in the midst of the Depression. Yet Josephine Logan, the donor of the prize, condemned the work’s broad, exaggerated style, founding the conservative “Sanity in Art” movement in response.

This controversy only brought Lee fame, and Thanksgiving has been recognized as one of the most popular nostalgic views of this American ritual since that time. ~ The Art Institute of Chicago
