Maxine's Ballroom

Maxine's Ballroom Built originally as an 1880s Masonic hall and used as an Odd Fellows lodge, Maxine’s has been restored to turn-of-the-century splendor.

The building that now houses Maxine’s Ballroom was built in 1884 as a Masonic Hall, but sold within a few years to the Odd Fellows, in whose hands it remained until the 1950s. The Odd Fellows used the top floor, which included a large and small ballroom, kitchen and a warren of small offices and passageways (complete with secret password speaking tubes and sliding peepholes), for lodge meetings an

d dances. During the war years, the ballrooms were opened to the public on many occasions, and USO dances were regularly held upstairs for the entertainment of soldiers stationed at Camp Adair. Once the Independence Odd Fellows disbanded, the upstairs rooms gradually fell into disrepair, until Maxine’s 2011 restoration to 1880s ballroom splendor.
