There’s always that quiet day after the fair—the dust has settled, the barns are empty, and the energy that once filled the grounds lingers only in memory. It’s on days like this, when the fairgrounds fall still, that my mind starts to wander. I reflect on the week that was—what we did well, where we might have fallen a little short, and how we can make next year even better.

Today was one of those days.

And then, as if on cue, a reminder walked through my office door—MacKenzie Johnston.

MacKenzie has been a part of the Eastern Michigan State Fair family for many, many years. She’s been an exhibitor, a volunteer, and most of all, a bright light on our fairgrounds. She’s the kind of person who brings a smile to your face the moment you see her.

Today, she brought with her the diamond painting she entered into the fair this year—an award-winning piece of art—and handed it to me with a simple, heartfelt message: “This is for you.”

In that moment, I was reminded—once again—that being a fair manager isn’t just a job. It’s a privilege. It’s moments like these that fill your heart and make all the hard work, long hours, and tough decisions worthwhile.

To MacKenzie, thank you. Your kindness and smile means more than you know.

Thank You for an Incredible 2025 Fair Week!

On behalf of the Eastern Michigan State Fair and the Lapeer County Agricultural Society, thank you to everyone who came out and supported the fair last week.

Despite a couple of days with extreme (and even threatening) weather, we were blessed with one of the best-attended fairs in our history. Most importantly, folks went home safe, happy, and smiling after a great day at the fair.

A special shout-out to our incredible youth exhibitors and generous buyers who helped make the 2025 Youth Animal Auction our biggest ever—both in participation and total sales. You are truly the heart of what we do.

For those who know me, you’ve probably heard my three rules before:

The fair must be safe.

The fair must be clean.

People must leave feeling they got good value.

I truly believe we delivered on all three again this year. A huge thank-you to everyone who made that possible—our staff, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and of course, all of you who visited.

A Quick Note About Our Ticket Pricing

We’ve seen a few questions about admission, so here’s a little insight into our Pay-One-Price model:

The Eastern Michigan State Fair is operated by the Lapeer County Agricultural Society, a nonprofit organization focused on youth in agriculture and providing affordable family entertainment. Our pricing structure is built to support that mission.

There are a few common pricing models used by fairs:

Per-activity pricing (pay separately for rides, parking, shows, etc.)

Pay-One-Price (our model): one admission covers it all

We believe the Pay-One-Price model gives families the best opportunity to enjoy the full fair experience—and make no mistake, we are focused on family.

Here’s what your admission included this year:

Sea Lion Splash

Circus Pages

The Globe of Death

Live music

Wilderness Trail Zoo

Magic shows

Strolling acts

All grandstand shows

Unlimited carnival rides

With shows starting every 30 minutes from 1 PM to 10 PM, there was something exciting happening all day long.

We understand that no pricing model fits everyone, but we are proud to offer something that’s fun, full, and affordable—especially for families.

Thank you again for being part of the 2025 Eastern Michigan State Fair. We are truly grateful for your continued support.
