What's the best tire choice for the Rocky Mountain Roubaix course? As always, it depends who you ask. Assuming you are riding a gravel bike with enough clearance, my recommendation would be to go with something between 30 and 40mm, with a relatively smooth center tread and some grip on the sides. The Vittoria Terreno Dry or the Donnelly Strada USH are a couple great examples that provide the versatility necessary to keep you rubber side down on the gravel, but fast and smooth on the pavement.

Course report from this morning:
1. The view from the KOM at the top of Fred Lane. Smooth-ish gravel on the top straightaway.
2. The county appears to have foiled our plan to have a nice smooth hard-packed course throughout. There is some pretty good-sized gravel on the first corner headed down Fred Lane, and on the descent on Porter Lane. This descent will require extra care, especially for those opting for 30mm or narrower tires, but it is definitely rideable, and there are some decent lines if you choose wisely. Don't crash at mile 14 and ruin your race.
3. Climbing up toward the Ninemile Ranger Station, the start of the 48, and mile 26 of the 74. Hard packed rolling hills. In very good shape.
4. Pristine pavement down Remount.
5. The Ninemile out-and-back is firm, but there are quite a few potholes. It's going to be difficult to avoid them all, especially if you're in a group.
6. Last gravel descent before the finish. Might as well be paved.
