I just received the permobil F5 corpus vs stand up wheelchair and it is a dream come true! I have been fidgeting and fighting for years in clunky import stand up models that are just uncomfortable, high maintenance and extremely high cost replacement parts. Not to mention having to wait months for replacement parts from overseas. Almost all of the problems I was experiencing permobil has addressed and implemented these solutions into this model of standing chairs.
I am a 6’2” Italian sports fanatic who broke his neck in gymnastics at 16 years old. (C6-7 superQuad) I rehabilitated quickly and have been independent and living on my own taking care of myself which is very important to me. Having a wheelchair that’s not matched to your lifestyle is quite debilitating which I have learned from my experience with poorly designed equipment such as the Levo brand wheelchairs. I have only had the corpus for one week and it has already done wonders for my back pain and my posture.
I have a lifestyle quite different than other wheelchair users but hopefully soon they will join me in my quest for power electric wheelchair racing on a professional level with corporate sponsors supporting the racers and the events similar to professional auto racing, motorcycle racing, and every other types of races they have with vehicles on wheels. The idea came to me during a lonely and depressed and quite bored state of mind looking for something to do some sort of activity some sort of recreation or sport That I could engage in utilizing my electric wheelchair. So I ask myself, “what is fun and simple to do in an electric wheelchair?“ And of course the answer came quickly and loud, “wheelchair racing!“
I looked online to see if it exists already and all I found were remnants of old websites brave attempts to create this much needed sport for the physically challenged community on a national level. So I decided to create INDYenableus500 “enable us to be independent and Race!” I also created NASCHAIR and the Stand Prix, stand up electric wheelchair racing! (You can find these pages and groups on Facebook) OK now don’t go nuts thinking to the extremes I’m not looking to slam them in the walls at 300 miles an hour, OK? I’m talking about a realistic wheelchair race between multiple teams on various tracks nothing out of the ordinary here folks just a regular old power electric wheelchair race to give us physically challenged individual something to do with our electric wheelchairs other than sit and watch TV at 1 mph.
I have made this my number one goal but this sport will never emerge and grow without corporate sponsors. Unlike auto racing, power electric wheelchair racing allows you to see the driver of the vehicle. This is great news for sponsors of clothing, racing attire, shoes, sports drinks, communication devices, sunglasses, etc. go kart tracks, bicycle trails and skate parks would be ideal places to hold these events.
