It started with 12 boats and an idea on December 15th, 1962 when the fledgling Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee "planned an exciting Christmas Boat Parade as their initial benefit." This parade was the humble beginning of the Cruise of Lights®, now over 50 years later a holiday tradition in Huntington Harbour and a staple fundraiser for the Philharmonic Committees of Orange County. Tickets for the Cruise back then were $1 for adults and 50 cents for children, and proceeds amounted to no more than $2,000. These days, the Cruise of Lights® raises nearly $100,000 annually. Proceeds directly support the Philharmonic Society's nationally recognized Youth Music Education Programs, which serve nearly 200,000 children each year.
