Rick Carter is a school resource officer. A couple of years ago, we asked him if there were any good classroom locks for active shooter lockdowns. Rick’s answer: a few options, but none he was impressed by.

Lockdown means the door stays locked. But what happens when help gets there?

On the left is a standard classroom lockset. Two screws hold it together.

On the right is the LifeBolt single-motion egress lock. It’s bolted through the door with four carriage bolts and four lock nuts, plus two lag screws.
