The Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing boater at approximately 11 a.m., Tuesday, approximately 80 miles off Anclote, pending the development of new information.
Missing is 44-year-old Robert Luca.
Coast Guard crews searched by air covering approximately 1,400 square miles, about the size of Rhode Island. On-scene weather conditions during the search were approximately 17 mph winds and 2 to 3-foot seas.
“Our deepest sympathies are with Mr. Luca’s loved ones during this difficult time,” said Cmdr. Fredrick Pugh, a Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg search and rescue mission coordinator. “Suspending a search is never a decision taken lightly. We are grateful for the dedication and professionalism of all crews who worked tirelessly throughout this case.”
U.S. Coast Guard aircrews are searching for Robert Luca, 44, reported missing at 10:30 a.m., Monday, approximately 82 miles west of Anclote. A crew member aboard the fishing vessel Bearcat notified watchstanders.
