We had a great time at the Eldorado Ballroom Grand Reopening and Unveiling, as we honored the Dupree legacy and celebrated the completion of this historic preservation project on March 30th! It was a beautiful evening filled with amazing performances and heartwarming moments as Project Row Houses Executive Director Eureka Gilkey shared her gratitude to all who made this restoration possible for the Third Ward community.
A special thank you to Danielle Fanfair for her beautiful speech "Eldorado In Her Own Words" and Reverend Marilyn White for blessing this historic black space, to PRH Board President Bert Brown III, Fundraising Co-Chairs and PRH board members Anita Smith and Hasty Johnson, and our lovely host Deborah Duncan, for all their contributions to the grand reopening event. We would also like to thank Jazz and Blues Singer Jewel Brown, Jazz Vocalist Horace Grigsby, DJ Mookie Copeland, Houston Steppers, and DJ Flash Gordon Parks for a wonderful evening of performances to commemorate the night.
Towards the end of the event, we had the pleasure of surprising one of PRH's founders, Brother Jesse Lott with a cake for his 80th birthday! Brother Jesse has been very instrumental in our growth as an arts and culture institution, and we are beyond grateful to have Brother Jesse as a mentor, teacher, and friend. This was a wonderful way to round out the night, as Jewel Brown sang a lovely happy birthday song to close the show.
