Sacred Art Live

Sacred Art Live We're a group of artists who create inspiring works of sacred art for sale and exhibition in Houston, Texas.

"Sacred art is true and beautiful when its form corresponds to its particular vocation: evoking and glorifying, in faith and adoration, the transcendent mystery of God—the surpassing invisible beauty of truth and love visible in Christ, who “reflects the glory of God and bears the very stamp of his nature,” in whom “the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.” This spiritual beauty of God is reflec

ted in the most holy Virgin Mother of God, the angels, and saints. Genuine sacred art draws man to adoration, to prayer, and to the love of God, Creator and Savior, the Holy One and Sanctifier." -- Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2502

Artist Kate Capato Turns Talent Into Mission to ‘Bring God Through Beauty to Others’

‘The encounter with authentic beauty is an encounter with the Lord, whether it’s just a small piece or the fullness of it, Christ himself.’

Meet our Artist of the Week, Ruth Stricklin! (New Jerusalem Studios)

Ruth Stricklin is a mural artist and designer from Phoenix, Arizona, co-founding New Jerusalem Studios (NJS) alongside her husband, Geoff in 2014. Her profound commitment to authentic liturgical renewal within the Catholic community is beautifully exemplified through her work. A convert to Catholicism, Ruth's journey into the world of Catholic sacred art began with a transformative encounter with beauty in the liturgy, which she came to understand as an encounter with Christ himself.

Inspired by this profound experience, Ruth's vocation as an artist and the mission of NJS is to announce the Gospel of Jesus Christ through sacramentally informed sacred art and design. She believes that beauty, when placed at the service of the liturgy, transforms the arduous work of conversion into an attractive and enticing experience. Ruth's years of training and experience in art and design, parish ministry, and love of the liturgy are all dedicated to helping people experience Christ's loving and transformative presence through the beauty of sacred art.

Ruth will be joining us this year as one of our featured artists at Sacred Art Live! You can stay up to date with her on Facebook.

Meet our Artist of the Week, Julie Schulte! (Sacred Heart Artists Guild)

As a child, Julie built clubhouses and made napkin clothing for Barbie dolls. In her teens, she designed clothing from thrift stores and stayed up to the wee hours making elaborate mail art for friends abroad. Needless to say, creativity has always been a part of her life.

In the summer of 1993, Julie had a beautiful reversion back to the Catholic faith. She began work on art teaching missions with children in places in urban settings- St. Louis, Mo , Covington, LA and Juarez, Mexico. Once she was married and while her own children were 5 and under, she began her first home-based art studio, The Backdoor Studio.

Then the plague of 2020 hit, and Julie and her husband used that troubled period to consider making some drastic changes in their lives. After much prayerful discernment, they decided to take a deep leap of faith after joining the ordinariate parish of Presentation of the Lord Catholic Church in Montgomery, TX. Julie retired early from my public school teaching position and they both founded the Sacred Heart Artist Guild. For the first two years, Julie developed Catholic art retreats, taught traditional and classical drawing, painting, and sculpture classes to homeschool children in the greater Northwest region of Harris and Montgomery County.

In 2023, they moved to their current home in Conroe, TX where she works in her beautiful garden pottery studio creating art and teaching private classes and workshops.

Julie will be joining us this year at Sacred Art Live! as one of our featured artists. Keep up with her on Facebook at Sacred Heart Artists Guild
