Does anyone know how Community Park came to be?
In 1912, fifteen men came together to lease land from the Old Burleigh Estate. Each man contributed $1,000 toward the project. Later, the land was officially purchased using money they were able to raise in just one week. This land became known as Community Park.
The Fair Association then built a track, fencing, and exhibition buildings on the property. Community Park was intended to serve as a public park for the town, except during fair time when it was used for exhibitions and events. These fifteen men believed Community Park was something the town truly needed, and their vision helped create a place for community gatherings, recreation, and local traditions.
