Bravo! ๐Ÿ’ The Michigan Tech Theatre Series in the 2025/26 season was a spectacular success, ranging from award-winning dramas that kept us on the edge of our seats to immersive journeys through the history (and hauntings) of the Keweenaw.

Here is a look back at the productions that defined this season:

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Haunted Smelter: Descent into Madness
The theatre team set the ultimate spooky vibe, from the lighting and props to the acting, this annual event is a community favorite!

๐Ÿ›ถ Men on Boats
Directed by Nich Radcliffe, this play by Jacklyn Backhaus took us on a satirical, creative journey down the Colorado River and had multiple sell-out nights.

Reviews from audience members โคต๏ธ

"I loved the creative staging and props. I was inspired to learn more about the story when I got home."

"The play was a great choice, and the actors brought it to the next level. Great work to everyone!"

๐Ÿงฎ Proof
This award-winning comedy-drama by David Auburn was another success directed by Nich Radcliffe, exploring the thin line between genius and instability.

Reviews from audience members โคต๏ธ

"Great production. So much talent on stage and in support of the production!!โ€

"Loved the story and the performers, sound & light coordination, and atmosphere created an engaging and immersive story!"

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Journey through the Keweenaw
The series closed with an interactive walkthrough that showcased the incredible range of VPA students' talent, featuring everything from museum-quality displays to interactive murals. It was a true celebration of the place we call home.

Thank you to our dedicated directors, cast, crew, and every audience member who joined us for these unforgettable performances! We can't wait to see you back in the next season!

What an incredible season for 2025/26 Michigan Tech Music Series! The season brought music to every corner of our community, from the historic Quincy Mine to the exquisite St. Joseph Church in Lake Linden.

Here is a look back at the performances:

๐Ÿชจ New Music in the Mine
The season opened with a sell-out crowd at the historic Quincy Mine 1918 Hoist House. Feat. chamber singers and several guest artists, it was an unforgettable way to experience contemporary music in a local landmark.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€Spectacular, moving final number!โ€

๐ŸŽป New Music Detroit
The exploration of contemporary sounds continued with New Music Detroit, who brought an engaging and innovative performance to Rozsa Backstage.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "The musicians were great. Backstage setup is cool. Production quality was great"

๐ŸŽผ Superior Wind Symphony & Campus Concert Band
It was a high-attendance year for wind ensembles! The Superior Wind Symphony performed four distinct programs, including the high-energy Night at the Movies and Celebrations!

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Joel Neves always puts on a great performance and I thought the movie theme was a great idea."

๐ŸŽท Michigan Tech Jazz
Jazz had an impressive year with two Backstage Jazz events, one with guest conductor, Mike Irish, and three off-site performances. They ended on a high note with the Don Keranen Jazz Festival feat. guest artist Braxton Cook.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "I love Live Jazz, everyone was very talented and I was taken aback by them all.โ€

๐Ÿฅ Huskies Pep Band
Huskies Pep Band celebrated 25 years of performing their annual concert on the Rozsa stage.

๐ŸŽค Choirs of Michigan Tech
Vocalists showcased incredible range this year, from Choral Pops to a profound performance of Rachmaninoff Vespers.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Keep it up! We are grateful to reside in a community which is enriched by the presence of a university.โ€

๐Ÿช‰ Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra
The season culminated in the most ambitious, sell-out event in KSO history: Mahlerโ€™s Resurrection Symphony, performed with the Choirs of Michigan Tech.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "The greatest Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra Concert of all time. Bravo."

๐Ÿ’ฌ "The performance was nothing short of breathtaking."

Thank you for a season that truly resonated across the Keweenaw.

What an incredible season for the visual arts! The 2025/26 Michigan Tech Art Series took us through hidden landscapes, from the microscopic world to the Keweenaw after nightfall, and explored the power of collective voice and the intersection of art and nature.

Hereโ€™s a look back at the exhibitions that defined this season:

๐Ÿ”ฌ Nanowonder: Images of the Microscopic World
We began with a look at the invisible world. This cross-campus collaboration used the Hitachi Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to turn everyday objects into extraordinary landscapes. A huge thank you to Hitachi, ACMAL, A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum, and the many MTU departments (VPA, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, and CSA) that made this event possible!.

๐ŸบArtful Intersections
The Fall Student Art Showcase brought the classroom to the gallery, featuring works from Art + Design and Contemporary Sculpture Studio students.

๐ŸŒŒ Through the Quiet Hours: Night Sky Art Exhibition
This year featured a bonus professional showcase inspired by National Geographic Live: Earth After Dark. It highlighted local artists and how our region transforms after nightfall in ways both subtle and profound.

๐Ÿ’ช Women's Rights are Human Rights
In the Spring, the Rozsa Art Galleries hosted this moving international poster exhibition. This collection challenged patriarchal attitudes and argued for a world that fosters societal stability and human dignity.

๐Ÿงš Beyond the Frame
The final showcase in the Rozsa Art Galleries featured Art on Site and Scenic & Entertainment Design students, who turned favorite childrenโ€™s books into a life-size gallery experience.

๐ŸŒŠ Studio Here Now
Hosted by Professor Anne Beffel in Wadsworth Hall, this series included Art + Nature, an artist talk exploring attentiveness and our role within natural systems. The series concluded with the Spring Student Art Exhibition, a vibrant display of works from students across campus in courses Art & Nature, Art & Flora, Color & Creativity, and Creative Drawing.

Thank you for supporting the Michigan Tech Art Series!

As we reflect on the 2025/26 Season, we want to take a moment to recap each series to look back on moments in each one that made the year so special. We could tell you all about it, but we think our audience says it best:

Starting with two sold-out nights, Visit Keweenaw and the Rozsa brought Charlie Berens back to the Rozsa stage, and we were introduced to the opener Sohrab Forouzesh:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Great event with great comedians!"

To the magic of NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet with the KSO:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "I have been to many performances of The Nutcracker and this was my favorite. The costumes and sets were fantastic and the dancing was phenomenal. Love that the local dancers and KSO also performed."

We explored the beauty of our own night sky with National Geographic Live: Earth After Dark:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Outstanding speaker in such a timely and important topic!"
๐Ÿ’ฌ "FASCINATING. My family and myself have always loved National Geographic and were so excited to be able to meet someone who worked directly for them as an explorer, scientist, and in my mind an artist as well."

Late Night Programming and the Rozsa brought the hilarious Zarna Garg for Winter Carnival

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œShe was hilarious! Great event.โ€

We moved backstage for an intimate concert with Ben Mulwana and The Village:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "I really enjoyed the setting, backstage at the Rosza is one of my favorites. I love the intimacy and uniqueness of sitting on stage. Ben was a FABULOUS musician."

Families joined us for a prehistoric adventure with Dinosaur World Live:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "My son LOVED it! More kid friendly events like this would be awesome to have!"
๐Ÿ’ฌ "Great show! Thank you for bringing such wonderful programming to our community!"

And finally, we celebrated our 25th Anniversary with the incredible return of Step Afrika! for the series finale performance:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Iโ€™ve been going to events at the Rozsa for five years, and this was the coolest experience yet."
๐Ÿ’ฌ "I brought my 3 grandsons (9,7,5) to expand their horizons, and Iโ€™m so happy I did. They all took something away from the experience that helps them see a bigger world than the one they were born into"

Thank you to our audience for being part of this remarkable season!

What a breathtaking way to close the 2025/26 season! This past weekend, the Rozsa stage made history with the first-ever performance of Mahlerโ€™s 'Resurrection' Symphony in the Upper Peninsula.

Few theaters have the sheer scale to house an 88-member orchestra and a full choir of nearly equal size, but seeing the ensembles fill our space was nothing short of transcendent. For our audience, it was a rare opportunity to witness one of the most audacious symphonic projects ever attempted in our region.

The feedback we have received has been overwhelming, itโ€™s clear that this was more than just a concert; it was a transformative community experience.

A few comments from the audience โคต๏ธ

"The Mahler concert was outstanding! I will never forget it!"

โ€œThe performance was of excellent quality. The final movement actually had me tearing up a little. I also felt the ticket was very affordable."

My grandpa said after the show, "This was the most meaningful performance I've ever been to at the Rozsa." He has attended events at the Rozsa regularly over the last 25 years.

"Breathtaking and emotional. I am soooo glad I was there and would recommend the events."

"The best classical music performance l've ever seen in my entire lifetime."

"I've been blessed over the years to see quite a few performances in New York, Toronto, London, symphonies in NY, Chicago, Boston. This had to have been the single most epochal musical event of my life. There are no words.โ€
______________

This performance required immense teamwork, from custom stage setups to complex multi-camera systems, to hours and hours of practice. We are so proud of all involved who dedicated their time and energy to this event.

To everyone who shared in this unforgettable season finale: thank you. We are honored to have shared this time with you and can't wait to see you again next year.

Ten French horns, three steel rod bells, an organ, and a stage filled with the power of over a hundred musicians from across the region ๐ŸŽป๐Ÿช‰๐Ÿช˜ We went behind the scenes with TV6 this Monday to talk about the incredible scale of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony.

Maestro Joel Neves and members of the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra shared what it takes to prepare for a Titanic production that includes offstage brass and a literal "death shriek" chord. The symphony is so massive that Leonard Bernstein famously required the construction of an additional stage just to accommodate the number of musicians involved in the performance.

This Saturday marks the final performance of the Rozsa 25th Anniversary Season and the Upper Peninsula premiere of Mahler's Symphony No. 2.

As we close this season with such a bold work, we want to hare a heartfelt thank. you to the 30,000+ people who walked through the Rozsa doors this season. This anniversary has been a celebration of our important it is to be in this space together as a community. We are so grateful for the energy you bring to the room and the support that makes the Rozsa what it is.
