Our Story
The Waikiki Steel Guitar Week and Festival is presented by the Royal Hawaiian Center and HIMELE - the Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences, in its ongoing efforts to highlight and preserve the island culture and bring together and showcase legendary steel guitarists and up-coming students in celebration of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. This program is also supported in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts through appropriations from the Legislature of the State of Hawaii and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
The festival highlights and preserves the island culture by bringing together and showcasing legendary steel guitarists and up-coming steel guitar students in celebration of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. This annual week-long event features nightly (Monday-Thursday) steel guitar entertainment by individual artists and a complete festival program on Friday and Saturday featuring ten or more steel guitar masters and their bands. The event is held at the Royal Grove stage in Waikiki’s Royal Hawaiian Center, and is free and open to the public.
