Pasifika film Tinā has topped Consolidated Theatres (http://www.consolidatedtheatres.com/) charts for its opening weekend. Particularly remarkable for an independent film, Tinā is the highest grossing film so far this weekend at every Consolidated Theatres location that is screening the film. The buzz comes just ahead of a Consolidated Theatres event to be held this Tuesday, September 2, featuring a live-streamed Q&A with the film’s Director Miki Magasiva, cast members Anapela Polata’ivao and Beulah Koale, and moderated by Hawai’i International Film Festival Artistic Director Anderson Le. Immediately following the 6:00 p.m. show on Tuesday at the participating Consolidated locations Kahala, Kapolei, Mililani and Ward, audiences will have the opportunity to submit questions to be answered LIVE by the panel. An on-screen QR code will connect the guests’ questions from across the theatre locations into the moderated discussion for a unique community experience.
With a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, Tinā (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin%C4%81) is one of the most successful New Zealand films of all time, telling the story of Samoan teacher Mareta Percival (played by Polata’ivao). Struggling after the death of her daughter in the Christchurch earthquakes, Percival reluctantly takes on a role as a substitute teacher at an elite private school and is surprised to find children in desperate need of guidance, inspiration and love.
WHEN/WHERE: Livestream event to be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 following the 6 p.m. screenings at Consolidated Theatres Kahala, Kapolei, Mililani and Ward locations.
