Green Rabbit Island by Masami Teraoka (1998) 🌊

Located on the Lobby level of the Hawai‘i Convention Center, this striking oil painting captures the island of Mānana, commonly known as Rabbit Island, off O‘ahu’s east coast near Makapu‘u.

In this piece, an unexpected rainy season transforms the island, covering it in lush vegetation so it glows like an emerald against the powerful, ever-churning ocean. The scene reflects Hawai‘i as a place of travelers and arrivals, where the islands have long welcomed voyagers—from ancient Polynesian navigators to modern-day visitors.

Our two-year rooftop terrace deck renovation began January 2, 2026, alongside other key building improvements to keep HCC competitive and support Hawai‘i’s economy.
