Race information and registration is up

If an OC-1 paddler was allowed just one accolade to define their lifetime of paddling, many of the world's best would argue that a Kaiwi Solo win would be it.  Though outrigger canoe paddling extends way beyond Hawaii and the Pacific triangle, the gods will leave it up to Kaiwi to determine who is ...

Wednesday 3/11 Koa Nui update:

Given the intensity of the wind, rain, and swell expected on Saturday, we will not be able to safely hold any races. Our safety official boats would not be able to look after paddlers with limited visibility and swell causing closeout breaking surf at entry and exit points.

We are still looking ahead at Sunday forecast with lighter wind and rain which may allow us to hold a race. If manageable and there is wnough paddlers wanting to race the course would be from Magic Island to Hawaii Kai. We will post updates regarding Sunday event as we get closer to Saturday.

For those who paid entry fee for all 3 stages you will be refunded. If we hold the Sunday race and you choose to race you will be refunded for half the 3 -stage entry fee payment. If you choose not to race you will be refunded for that day as well.

Stay safe everyone.

Paddlers who are experienced with Makai Pier run may enter the long course. All others must race short course. Race director must approve. LEASHES ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL CRAFTS

The unforeseen is where danger lies - We are all aware of the brutal weather forecasted for our state this week. I’ve learned to hope for the best, but go the safe course if theres any doubt. Trying to hold off on any premature decisions about cancelling the Koa Nui race, hoping for a safe window that allows our event to go. But, I love everyone too much to put any single soul in harm’s way. That said, hold tight, we will evaluate what Mother Nature deals us as the week unfolds. Plan for worst, hope for best, but go home to loved ones….
Stay tuned for updates, we are monitoring and will keep you informed. Thanks for your patience and respect. Stay safe
