Aloha means love and friendship. This Solo Trek duo is what the Oahu Pentathlon is all about... doing hard things while loving other, together. This friendship pair took on each mile together and their care for one another, the experience, the land, and the people around them was evident by so many on the course. Hau'oli means joy or captivating happiness. If you saw Cory Collins (.colllins) on the course, he was smiling. The grueling Solo Trek is no minor effort, but Cory made it look like a birthday party! His cheerful energy was contagious and help bring up athletes and volunteers alike through every mile. At the athlete briefing on Friday, part of our prayer was for the athletes to have FUN, and Cory showed us that specific prayer was answered every time we saw him. Kokua means to help and give aid. We ask a lot of questions of our volunteers about their availability and desire for involvement in this event. Jacob Woodcock checked nearly every box for anything, anywhere, anytime. He was willing and eager to take any position that needed to be filled, and we definitely took him up on it! Jake worked several different areas over the course of the weekend and did it all with a selfless heart and positive attitude. We know we'll miss him as a volunteer next year when he returns to participate as an athlete. 😉

Malama means to care for and protect. Lovingly known by many athletes on the course as "Riley's Mom," Rachelle (rachelle_wharton) not only served as a support coordinator for her son taking on the Solo Trek course, but to many other athletes along the way. Providing extra nutrition, hydration, and encouragement, she made sure that everyone was taken care of, safe, and loved. Mahalo, Riley's Mom!

Ho'omau means persistence and perseverance. As a well-known athlete in the endurance arena, it's no surprise that Jake Gibbs () crossed the finish line first, but how he did it was a whole other story. With 50+ miles left to go on the final bike stretch, Jake was without the right gear to fix a flat. With a two-hour delay and scrambling for a solution, he ended up finishing the course (first!) on a borrowed mountain bike and hiking shoes. Amazing job, Jake!

Congratulations, Adventure Teams! You did it!

You demonstrated not only the physical effort required for this challenge, but we saw you out there having FUN! Thank you for making the most of this event and enjoying the course as God's beautiful playground. Your positive attitudes made an incredible day even better - and look at these times! Well done!
