Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized event that began as a way to honor the life of DEA agent Kiki Camarena, who was murdered by drug traffickers in Mexico City in 1985. After his death, Agent Camarena's supporters began to wear red ribbons to signify their commitment to reduce the demand for drugs in their communities. Soon the act of wearing red ribbons grew into a national phenomenon know

n as the Red Ribbon Campaign. Today, Red Ribbon Week is celebrated from October 23-31st across the nation.
