Some GHSBD History: A promo video we used for our local races back when we raced on Westpark Drive before moving to the Hockley Derby Park in 2010. A group of derby families (which included Harry and Rick) organized GHSBD in 1994, taking over from another organization that started on this hill in 1991.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we would like to honor Major General Richard “Dick” Carr, USAF, ret., a former GHSBD Grand Marshal, for his leadership and enterprise in building the Vietnam Wall of Southwest Florida (located in Punta Gorda), a park that was opened to the public in 2017.

“The Vietnam Wall of Southwest Florida will provide a permanent education reminder to the living and generations to come of the sacrifices made by all who served in Vietnam, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice and whose names will never be forgotten.”

NOTE: Dick and his wife Jean attended our 2024 championship races in May of that year and have made generous donations to our organization. Last Photo: Dick, our 2024 Super Kid Champ and his copilot.

BIG THANKS to our GHSBD staff, Cy-Woods student volunteers, and derby families for helping out at Saturday's Texas Top Gun Series Spring Rally! Also, thanks to Ken Cline (1967 AASBD World Champ) for speaking at our pizza party about the history and design of the Stock car he headed up in the early 90s. And congratulations to our 2025-26 TTGS Champs, Jack Higginbotham (Stock) and Reagan Davis (Super Stock)! Attached are the full point totals and race results.

BIG THANKS to the Cy-Woods student volunteers, our GHSBD staff and derby families for helping out on Saturday, especially Jennifer Davis for feeding us and David Stolz for setting up and running the race management and sound system. Attached are the race results which includes Texas Top Gun Series points earned for both races.
