This one hurts.
While we woke up encouraged to see a break in the rain forecast for this afternoon, unfortunately, the winds have continued to pick up.
We are confident we could safely host the 5K itself and probably get some pretty epic pictures in these conditions, but our bigger concern is everyone getting safely to and from the race. Eight counties are currently in a state of emergency, including counties bordering Somerset.
The safety of our runners, volunteers, emergency services, and the greater Hillsborough community that may need those resources has to come first.
With that in mind, The 2026 Chase 5K is officially canceled.
Because The Chase takes place on a state highway and requires an extensive level of permitting, approvals, and coordination, we unfortunately cannot simply move the race to a rain date within a reasonable timeframe.
All registered runners and sponsors will automatically be deferred to The Chase 5K in 2027.
Thank you for your patience over the past few days. We truly tried to keep this race together despite the impending storm, and we appreciate everyone who hung in there with us as we watched the forecast change.
We’re disappointed too.
Hopefully, you can take advantage of the break in the rain this afternoon and get in a safe run closer to home.
We’ll see you on the Bypass in 2027 with considerably less weather drama.
