And to finish it allllll off we have the one and only DJ Kayla Kush for the late-night silent disco! We've known Kayla since her early days as a student on "U Dub", her dub reggae radio show on WSUM 91.7 FM, UW Madison's student radio, where we recorded a live in-studio set, did several interviews and acoustic performances, and nowadays she's got a new 2-hour reggae+ show on WORT FM called 2 Dub, she's a writer for Rootfire, a Madison Area Music Association award-winning live DJ & silent disco queen! She killed her silent disco set at Vibe High in 2019, so we knew who to call when we found out we couldn't make noise after midnight!
Official bio:
DJ Kayla Kush has over a decade of bringing reggae to the airwaves every week. She began hosting U DUB, a weekly roots reggae radio show on WSUM, in 2010 after being inspired by the vibrational powers of the music. In 2018, she moved her show to Madison’s beloved listener-sponsored community radio station, WORT FM, and dubbed it 2 DUB—bringing listeners a late night twist on reggae with infusions of hip hop and worldbeat every Saturday from 10pm-Midnight central time.
She has performed energetic lives sets at music venues, events, and festivals consistently over the past decade, including Cali Roots Fest in 2020 which pivoted to virtual.
Kayla is a 4-time winner of the DJ of the Year at the Madison Area Music Awards. She is also a music journalist and the designated music selector at Rootfire, responsible for curating the influential Progressive Roots Playlist each week which is available across streaming platforms.
