Kirchenfest

Kirchenfest Where the Fun is "In-Tents"! Festival held the fourth weekend in August every year in Highland, IL. August 21st-23rd, 2026 To many people, Kirchenfest and St.

Paul Catholic Church in Highland are synonymous!

“Kirchenfest”, which is German for “Church Festival”, is a two-day celebration in which the people of St. Paul Parish share their warmth and friendliness with friends and visitors alike! Let this be our invitation to you to come and join us at our 47th Annual Kirchenfest! The Kirchenfest is one of the largest church festivals in Southern Illinois.

The event spreads over six acres on the grounds of St. Paul Parish and draws people from miles around the bi-state area. Take a look around our website to see what we’ve planned for this year’s event. If you’re looking for food, games, music and fun, there’s no better place to be than Kirchenfest 2017!

All of us at Kirchenfest mourn the loss of the “father of Kirchenfest” Ralph Korte, who passed away recently at the age of 90. Ralph was instrumental in creating Kirchenfest, serving as chairman for both the inaugural Kirchenfest in 1971 and our third Kirchenfest in 1973. Ralph and his family continued to stay deeply involved in Kirchenfest over the years, shaping the event into what it is today. Although Ralph was not able to attend Kirchenfest 53 last weekend, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all worked throughout the week to help deliver an event that would have made him proud. Kirchenfest is just one example of Ralph’s tremendous impact on our parish and community, but we are eternally grateful to him and the legacy he has left. We simply wouldn’t have Kirchenfest without Ralph Korte! Please join us in lifting up his family at this time of sorrow. Rest in peace good and faithful servant!

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to every single person who made this year’s Kirchenfest possible. To our incredible volunteers, you gave your time, your energy, and your joy to help keep this tradition alive. From setting up, to cooking, to pouring drinks, to cleaning up at the end of the night. You are the heartbeat of this festival. To everyone who came out to celebrate with us. Thank you for showing up, laughing, dancing, and sharing in the fun. Your presence keeps the spirit of community alive and reminds us why we do this year after year. Kirchenfest is more than just an event. It’s family, friendship, and tradition. None of it happens without all of YOU. Until next year. Cheers to the memories we’ve made and the ones yet to come!
