And now...the explanation!
Clue 1: The theme this year is "The Great Outdoors." Doesn't that make you want to toast s'mores? Not this week, though! It is way too dry. So how about, instead, you give medallion hunting a try? Neither dig, nor climb, nor from Highland borders stray. No trespassing, have fun, and be on your way. The treasure awaits and points you there. Now come and find me if you dare!---------->This clue tells you the medallion is hidden in Highland on public land in a family friendly place. There was also the word dry which refers to Dry Creek. The actual medallion has a compass inside--a nod to the great outdoors and the "points the way" was directing you north.
Clue #2: If you look toward Texas, you'll be right and also wrong. So stop, collaborate, and think about this song. You might think you're ice cold, but you're getting warm. What's a good place to be in a storm?--------->This is directing you to the Texas Longhorns on Timpenogos and N 6000 W. North of that intersection is the intersection of W 11800 N and N 6000 W. This is the location of Alpine food storage (the GOOD place--storm cellar/dry storage) and a stop sign that literally says "stop, collaborate and listen."
Clue #3: In the great outdoors there are so many critters to see. But the one that has always eluded me is a panda of sorts. Now where could it be? Go find his lair and you're nearly there. So fix the seat rail 'neath your chair.------->The panda is actually a raccoon which is the mascot on the sign at Ridgeline Elementary. "Fix the seat rail" means rearrange the letters to find "Saltaire"--a road right next to the trail.
Clue #4: A breeze from the northwest and the atmosphere will be right. You'll have to be up early to behold this sight. Or maybe stay up late--that's okay, too. Just split it down the middle and you'll know what to do.------->The breeze from the northwest is salt air (Saltaire). Up early is sunrise. Up late is sunset. There are two roads--sunset and sunrise. The trail runs right down the middle of them.
Clue #5 that never got read: This trail is not for cows--so head out and you're all set. But if thistle is being planted, you're not there yet. Keep on going--you're getting hot. But off the trail? Absolutely not!------->Not for cows is Bull River Trail. There is a swing "set" and a bird feeder filled with thistle. While the trail is public, it passes through private property. Hence the line to please stay on the trail.
Final clue that never got read: If you're warned not to trespass, you better turn 'round. Re-trace your steps and look on the ground. As you find yourself facing the west and the north, I urge you to go about 50 paces forth. 'Neath a white rock that's right by the trail--Follow instructions and you will not fail. But definitely, definitely keep one toe on the trail.--------->The trail ends and there is a huge no trespassing sign. Go back about 50 steps and look on the ground for the white rock. There weren't a lot of rocks around...so it would've been reasonably easy find at this point (provided you were on the right trail). I really wanted hunters to stay on the trail as it passes through private property...hence "keep one toe on the trail."
I hope you all had a blast!!! Thanks for participating!
