Turns out the best summer spots have been here all along ☀️

For this month’s Hickory Highlight, we’re featuring Murray’s Mill, a historic spot tucked along Balls Creek that’s perfect for sunny days and warm-weather wandering. Step inside the 1890s general store for candy, gifts, local finds, and old-school charm, then grab a scoop of ice cream before exploring the grounds.

Watch the pond slip over the mill dam as the 28-foot waterwheel makes its slow turn, stroll the scenic trails, and take in the picnic-worthy views. One of the most unique historic sites in Catawba County, Murray’s Mill is the kind of place that makes you want to stay awhile. 🌿

🌿💚 A great day to give back at St. Stephens Park

Community members rolled up their sleeves on Saturday for another successful Park Stewardship Day at St. Stephens Park! From refreshing landscaped areas with mulch and pine straw to helping clean up around the dog park, 17 volunteers came together to make a lasting impact on one of Hickory’s favorite outdoor spaces.

A huge thank you to our partners Outdoor NC, Catawba County Parks, and Keep Catawba County Beautiful for helping make the day possible.

We love seeing the community come together to care for the places that make Hickory so special—and we can’t wait for the next one! 🌎✨
