Edelweiss Winery: Property History

The original structure was completed in 1854 by Michael Eberlin, a German immigrant from Pennsylvania. Just a few years later, after Michael’s passing in 1858, his widow Elizabeth married Jacob Colling- who would go on to shape the winery’s enduring legacy. By 1870, they had become some of the region’s most prominent vineyardists, producing more than 2,000 gallons of wine annually while raising 8 children on the family’s 100-acre farm of vineyards, crops, and livestock. The surrounding acres were eventually portioned off, and the house remained in the family until the last two remaining sisters sold in the spring of 2023. At that point the house had not been lived in for decades and was in need of a major rehab. Clint and Beth Osler, a couple from Kansas City with strong roots in Hermann, jumped at the chance to breathe new life into this treasured landmark. By November 2024, Edelweiss Winery opened its doors once again, debuting seven wines- each thoughtfully named in honor of the remarkable women in their lives. With this, a fresh chapter begins for a timeless piece of Missouri’s wine heritage.
