Poetry Mondays are gatherings for students, faculty, and members of the Hofstra community to promote the study of poetry in Spanish. These meetings are coordinated by Professor Miguel-Angel Zapata. The poetry readings are bilingual, in Spanish and English.
On November 2nd, we will explore the contrasts and sonic resonances within the verses of two brilliant Chilean poets: Enrique Lihn and Gonzalo Millán. We will examine their poems in relation to paintings by Vermeer and Caravaggio. Enrique Lihn (1929–1988): Chilean poet, novelist, and essayist known for his intellectual rigor, critical perspective, and innovative contributions to Latin American poetry. Gonzalo Millán (1947–2006): Chilean poet and visual artist, recognized for his minimalist style, precise language, and influential contributions to experimental poetry.
