Throughout the year, CDP stages three community based dance performances and offers cost effective learning opportunities through integrated technique classes, community summer workshops, and adaptive dance classes for people with disabilities and special needs. Dancers and non-dancers of all ages and abilities explore movement within their own unique body structure, exercise their creative spirit through movement composition and choreography, and reach outside their comfort zones by working with others in an environment of partnership, mentorship, and collaboration. 🎉“The Party” 🎉

Marie, her mom and the hired help are preparing for their annual holiday party. The guests arrive and the party begins. 🎁The mean lady from across town has found out about the gathering and crashes the party. 😫 That is soon forgotten when the handsome new fella in town arrives. 🙋‍♂️The party is in full swing when the magical Madam Drosselmeier, who is known for her fabulous gifts and is always the life of the party arrives bearing gifts for all the children. 🪩✨ This year, she has created a special gift for Marie- a Nutcracker Doll with an extra kiss of magic. Eventually, the party winds down. After the guests finally leave and Marie is sent to bed, she sneaks back into the living room to be with her Nutcracker and falls asleep with the doll in her arms. Enter Drosselmeier, who in her love for Marie, sends her on a special journey in the form of a dream. She kisses her with magic to send her on her way…and the dream begins.💋🪄✨

Kick back and enjoy three “mash-up” musical sets featuring local musicians and performance artists, accompanied by dance, visual imagery, narration, and live interaction—with art, history, and philosophy woven throughout.

🏛️ ACT 2: EXPLORE
Step into a world of big questions with toga-clad thespians! Is happiness and pleasure where it’s at? What about meaning and purpose, justice and beauty? Explore these ideas through the eyes of local artists.

💬 ACT 3: ENGAGE
Hear from guest artists and scholars as they explore what the arts have to do with good living, virtue, and human flourishing, followed by facilitated conversation and audience Q&A.

Lewis & Clark Library invites you to experience a live, one-of-a-kind performance inspired by In the Heart of the Sea, this year’s NEA Big Read selection. Dancers from Cohesion Dance Project will create movement in the moment—responding to live music and storytelling through an unscripted improvisational performance.

🎻🎶 Sonic Escape, a musical duo featuring flute and violin, will fill the space with live compositions, accompanied by readings from In the Heart of the Sea.
