I have also been burning the midnight oil in attempt to finish or have also most finished a couple of the four paneled bone folders.

Well folks, the 18th century Artisan show is upon us and here is a really special piece that will be on display. This custom 18th century folder was part of a package deal for a fellow artist that I have the utmost respect and was super thrilled when he told me he wanted a piece of my work. Pictured is my rendition of the original that dates between 1740-1760.

Pictures of the full display coming in the morning

It been since August that I was really able to spend much time in the shop. But, since I was able to take some time off from work around the holidays, after visiting with friends and family, I found myself back in the shop frequently. I started this big blade back in July as a part of my demonstrations at the Kempton Gunmakers Fair, and it feels really good to be able to say this big blade is all wrapped up. Hand forged from 3/16” x 7” 1084 bar stock, this knife measures in at over 14 3/4 inches in total length with a 10 1/8” blade! The handle measures 4 5/8” with tapered tang and quilted maple scales. This will be available at the 18th century artisan show at Carlisle!

I wanted to just take a moment to say thank you to all my friends and family for another fantastic year! Without all of you none of this would be possible. While this year has certainly had its fair share of trials, personally I am looking forward to 2025 and new opportunities to continue to grow and improve. I hope each and every one of you have a fantastic holiday season and a wonderful New Year! And never forget the true reason for the holiday season!

After a fantastic CLA show, most people would take time to relax and enjoy a breather… but not me! After seeing some amazing examples of fine contemporary work and some unique antique pieces, I came home and went right back to work.

While both of these knives were started before the CLA show they I was lacking some creativity. Fast forward to this week and let’s just say I got my mojo back.

First is a knife that I aged to give it the look of a piece that has been used but not abused. The blade was gently aged and I turned a handle out of I piece of salvaged boxwood, that has also been aged.

The second knife is a hand made folder. All steel bolster and black horn side panels. A simple yet elegant 18th century style cuttoe. This folder is a donation to my church to raise funds for a Cuba Missions Trip!

Since it is here is an 18th century original folder and my work in progress of recreating this fantastic piece. I have burning the candle at both ends here of late trying to get this knife completed for the CLA Show. While it won’t be complete please make sure to stop by and see this “in the white” folder at my table. This will be my first time attending the CLA show; I am honored to be able to attend and be in the company of so many elite artists! Please make sure to stop by the table, introduce yourself and spend some time catching up or getting to know each other!

Safe travels to all attending the show. Let me know in the comments if I can look forward to seeing you at some point over the weekend!
