The Fair! A Grand Success! Hon. J.M.

The first fair ever held in Cleburne County far exceeded what had been hoped for by its most sanguine advocates. There were 347 entries, besides many articles exhibited which no premium was offered on. The display of textile fabrics was pronounced the finest ever seen by hundreds. The canned goods and preserve exhibit was simply immense, and the farm products could not be excelled. The fruit was t

he pride of all, while the mineral, flowers, art, birds, and stock were far better than had been expected, and the wine department would do justice to a California exposition. There were hundreds of people who made no exhibit, but will be on hand next year. Brundidge was present and delivered an able address, and M.R. White’s prize essay on Cleburne County was read amid great applause. Books were opened for the subscription of stock to an agricultural and industrial association, and $2,050.00 was promptly subscribed. Stock is still being taken and a year hence, we predict the Cleburne County Fair will be the pride of Arkansas.

Remember to have health papers when you go to livestock shows!

Headed to a fair or livestock show this season? Make sure your animals meet Arkansas’ exhibition health requirements before you go!

Many species need current CVIs, some require negative tests within 30–90 days, and animals showing signs of contagious disease won’t be allowed to exhibit. Requirements also vary by species, including horses, cattle, poultry, sheep and goats, swine, and more. Plan ahead, check the rules early, and help keep Arkansas agriculture healthy.

Full details and permit links are available here: https://agriculture.arkansas.gov/animals/disease-traceability/animal-entry-requirements/

Congratulations, Laiden!

The West Side Agriculture Education Program is proud to announce that Laiden Lindsey is officially a Certified Veterinary Assistant! 🐾

Laiden passed his certification exam this morning and will be receiving his credentials soon. Veterinary assistants are an essential part of a successful animal healthcare team, working alongside veterinary technicians and veterinarians.

Laiden completed 200 hours in the school-based veterinary assistant program through his agriculture classes, as well as 300 clinical hours at Sartin Animal Care Clinic in Heber Springs. During this time, he gained the required skills and hands-on training for the profession. A big THANK YOU to Dr. Sartin and his staff for their support!

After graduating from high school, Laiden plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello to study Pre-Veterinary Medicine. His ultimate goal is to attend veterinary school and specialize in exotic animals.

A great way to get connected with others in our community!
