Hawaiian May Day Festival May Day Festival celebrates Hawaiian culture and traditions through Hawaiian music, dance and arts

The May Day Festival celebrates Hawaiian culture and traditions through Hawaiian music and dance performances from San Francisco Bay Area musicians and halau, arts, crafts and local-style Hawaiian cuisine. The first May Day Festival was held in 1985 at the Hayward Plunge. From 1989 to 1994, it was held at Cal State Hayward, until finally settling at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Th

is special event is held each year by the Kumu Hula Association of Northern California, which was founded in 1984 by the late Ehulani Enoka-Lum and continued by daughter Deanie Lum-Villiados. In addition to the May Day Festival, the Kumu Hula Association also organizes the Ia 'Oe E Ka La Hula Festival & Competition held each November.
