Some may have seen this panel pictured with the table photos from Level that I posted. But I wanted to highlight it in a separate post. This is the 20th relief carved panel I have made to date. The five-foot panel is thinly carved with a shallower border than normal to allow the wings to overlap the border. It is textured with gouged relief carving throughout. Painted in oils with a soft sunset glow on the pale clouds across the sky background. Given a patina for an aged effect. This panel is currently available so please contact us with interest.

Really enjoyed making this latest piece. Lifesize Raven on snowy outcrop. Raven carrying a branch of winter berries. Raven carved from Northern White Cedar, with legs doweled with large oak dowels for support. Mouth relief carved in. Branches carved from oak with small oak dowels for connections. Berries carved from oak dowels. Base and bird are both hollow carved. Painted in tube oils and given a light aged patina.

So I have been silent on posting for a bit due to working on a rather large project (large enough to not really fit properly even in my 3’ x 3’ lightbox)Two solid months of long hours and a few sleepless nights later, here is that large project:

Jeremy Fisher and Jack Sharp

“Mr. Jeremy shoved the boat out again a little way, and dropped in the bait. There was a bite almost directly, and the float gave a tremendous bobbit. "A minnow! A minnow; I have him by the nose!" cried Mr. Jeremy Fisher, jerking up his rod. But what a horrible surprise; instead of a smooth, fat minnow, Mr. Jeremy landed Little Jack Sharp, the stickleback, covered with spines.” Beatrix Potter, The Tale of Jeremy Fisher.

Latest carvings off the bench. Finished up some half sizes, a pair of swamp flying wood ducks, and a large turtleback style goose. The goose has an unknown to me weight that had a cool pattern to it, wish I had a few more of them. Goose included a “hand forged” wooden base. There will be 2-3 more geese made on this pattern with different head positions, reach out if your interested in one or any of the other pieces.

Latest creation started from the plan to build some traditional bird trees. Something smaller my hand could handle after surgery. I proceeded to decide it will be ravens populating the tree. Some may know an old term for a group of ravens is a treachery. Hmmm, a treachery of ravens need a treacherous looking tree. So I present to you “The Treacherous Tree”.
