In a few short days, Opus 2805 will be leaving the shop on its way to its new home at St. John of the Cross in Vero beach Florida. This isn’t the first time however, this organ has left our shop. Opus 2805 was known formerly as opus 2600 from Christ Church Greenwich which has been reconfigured with a new specification, higher wind pressures, and broader scales. This project has been the epitome of brilliant design by John T Austin. Mr. Austin knew tonal tastes would change (for better or for worse) but what would remain is the need for good reliable pipe organs. Thus came the Universal Airchest and standard chest parts. He believed an organ that is accessible will be maintained and cared for.
The brilliance in design was then captured by the current senior design engineer Higgins who worked tirelessly to transform this instrument to fit its new role in Vero Beach. In the case of Opus 2805, we were able to reuse many of the wind chests but with some modifications. For example, by swapping a few pipe bars (toe boards), one of the former Great wind chests in 2600 became the new Solo chest in 2805. We are very excited to begin this installation. Stay tuned for updates!

We were delighted to have been featured on CPTV as part of their mini-series. Ryan and the producers did a great job telling the Austin story and featuring a number of our craftsmen and women.

Who’s afraid of a little snow? Not the Austin guys! Last week despite the bitter cold and snow storms across the country, we began the installation of Opus 2807 at First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs. The crew has done a great job getting the airboxes set up and universal wind chests installed. Looking forward to hearing the first notes in the next few weeks! Stay “tuned”! 😉

One of our recent installations is the addition of an Antiphonal and Solo divisions to Opus 2246 at Christ Church Summit in Summit NJ. We recently completed the installation of the gallery casework designed by Floyd Higgins, the Senior Design Engineer of Austin Organs. This elegant case displays the 16’ Principal, and is a wonderful nod to the casework we installed in the Sanctuary.

Happy Friday, folks! We realize it’s been a while since we’ve posted any updates so here we go! It’s been an incredibly busy start to the fall here at Austin Organs. We have begun the final stages of erecting opus 2807 heading to First Pres Colorado Springs at the first of the year. Opus 2806 at Sacred Heart in Cullman Alabama is up and playing, and are currently working on the casework. We have begun voicing work for opus 2805, a new organ heading to St. John of the Cross in Vero Beach Fl. Here are a few pics! Have a great weekend!

Austin Organs Inc. is delighted to announce the restoration of our Op. 1576 at Church of the Saviour in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. This restoration returns this historic instrument to its original 1928 specification—undoing unfortunate tonal alterations from the 1970’s. The restoration includes a few judicious additions, including stops originally intended for the instrument but not carried out due to budgetary constraints in 1928.

In addition to the restoration we are building a small four-stop Apse organ. These stops consist of period pipework befitting of an early 20th-century Austin. The Apse organ will be located close to the choir stalls to provide more support to choral singing.

Thank you to Church of the Saviour for entrusting us with the restoration of this monumental instrument. Thanks also to Don Verkuijlen, Director of Music and Organist (as well as one of our voicers) for championing this project and advocating for a historically informed restoration.
