MCIS Community Christmas Lights
Mercer County Intermediate School is excited to invite you to participate in a community wide holiday event! Our staff, along with staff and students from other Mercer County Schools, will be creating stationary displays for community families to drive through and enjoy. Think of it as a Southern Lights inspired reverse parade! We are inviting any community business or organization to participate by creating their own display to be set up on school grounds. This could be anything from decorating the bed of a truck, to creating a stationary parade float, to setting up a display on the ground. The sky's the limit!

The displays will be set up for one night only--December 19th, from 5:30-8:30 pm. There are no fees for participating. All COVID health and safety guidelines will be followed, this means spectators may not get out of their vehicles and participants may not hand out items to spectators during the event.

Thank you to every volunteer, sponsor, donor, participant, vendor and attendee we’ve ever had at our festival. Y’all made our event and y’all are why it is extremely difficult for me to write this post. It would be easy for me to focus on the fact I know there are people who will be rejoicing as soon as they read this and that fact is quite troubling and hurtful. I just hope each of you know how much I appreciate any time you have leant a helping hand or any kind of support. This has been an incredibly difficult and extremely emotional week for me. I along with many others have put a lot of hard work, dedication, hours, blood, sweat and tears into this festival. We have worked diligently to overcome many hurdles, some we knew about, some we may never know. I will never understand those who were actively working against our festival. My passion was always to use this as a way to celebrate and educate people about the agriculture industry, specifically the beef sector, and to build an event that our entire community and surrounding communities could attend and enjoy. This is not something I take lightly at all; I have shed many tears and lost a lot of sleep debating about what to do. It truly breaks my heart to have to say we have come to the very difficult decision to not have the festival. I realize that my pain is minuscule in the grand scheme of life and especially in comparison to what several families in our community are dealing with right now. I pray for all of them. I pray that each of you have a blessed Christmas and pray that each of you know how much I have valued you over the years.

What a great weekend!
🙏 God is amazing. There was a lot of prayer that happened leading up to this event. I’m so thankful God answered my prayers with perfect weather, incredible volunteers, big increase in pageant numbers, increase in youth grill off competition, a safe weekend, lots of great vendors and some very talented grill off teams!!! There are probably some answered prayers that I’m forgetting at the moment and I don’t mean to offend anyone but I am grateful for what He has blessed us with. One thing I can assure you is this weekend would have been a lot harder without all the prayers leading up to it.
🐮 There are a lot of people who made this weekend possible. The staff at Mercer County Extension Office, Daniel Baker, Harrodsburg Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, our board of directors/volunteers, sponsors/donors, vendors, all of our competitors (grill off teams, youth grill off, pageants, 5K, Bike Ride) and all those who attended the festival.
🥩 Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to all the grill off teams for choosing to be a part of our festival.
