Celebrating 77 years of music, harmony, and heart, The Downeasters Chorus bring an afternoon of unforgettable vocal magic straight from Maine. This vibrant ensemble of men and women serves up a crowd-pleasing mix of classics and contemporary favorites, all wrapped in lush, ringing harmonies that seem to float through the air. You’ll also hear from standout champion quartets adding their own sparkle, style, and vocal fireworks to the program. Beyond the music, the Downeasters share their voices generously, supporting the community through performances, fundraisers, and charitable giving to meaningful causes. Come be dazzled as their sound fills the acoustically enchanting Deertrees Theatre, as our 90th season comes to a close.

Join us tonight (9/3) at 6:30pm for the final Piano Bar & Open Mic of Deertees Theatre's 90th season!

The Salt Lick Cabaret is Deertrees’ cozy, intimate backstage space that opens up to a spacious deck and the Maine woods through large wooden doors. The cabaret space accommodates up to 60 patrons for its intimate performances. Salt Lick Café, run by the inimitable Barb Stauble, opens two hours before each event, offering b**r, w**e, canned cocktails, and a variety of sweet and savory snacks. This comfy destination is also home to Deertrees’ Art Gallery. Browse our gallery featuring local Maine artists. This season’s schedule features piano bar evenings and guest performances on select Thursdays.

Join us tonight (8/28) at 6:30pm for Collected Stories Read by Gail Phaneuf and Jill Drew!

Read by Gail Phaneuf and Jill Drew, “Collected Stories”, a play by Donald Margulies, follows teacher and respected short story writer Ruth Steiner. Her student and protégée is Lisa Morrison. Over the course of six years, Lisa journeys from insecure student to successful writer. After publishing a well-received collection of short stories, Lisa writes a novel based on Ruth’s affair with the poet Delmore Schwartz. The women deal with the moral dilemma of whether a person’s life events are suitable for another to use in their own creative process.

“Collected Stories” was inspired by the literary scandal revealed through Stephen Spender’s now-famous letter to The New York Times (Sept. 4, 1994), in which he accused American novelist, David Leavitt, of plagiarizing Stephen’s 1951 novel World Within World, especially its “literary structure, character development, dialogue and plot” in his 1993 novel, While England Sleeps.
