John Kelly here. Again, I've noticed a few views on this old page, so I wanted to mention that the open mic series did indeed reopen at Spring Gate, but it moved to Tuesdays at SpringGate Arcona for the month of April, and then back to SpringGate Vineyard for last Tuesday and this Tuesday coming up, which is the last one planned for a while. We've made some great new friends and met some awesome musicians, and you can meet them too if you keep an eye on Spring Gate's entertainment schedule. Many good things to come, and we're all glad to hear that!

John Kelly, open mic host here. I see this page getting occasional views lately, so I should let you know that as of the lockdown in March 2020 due to the pandemic, the Open Mic at Spring Gate and all other acoustic acts and entertainment are cancelled until further notice. I have been in contact with the management and they are reviewing their options for resuming live music, but they consider safety to be the number one priority and so entertainment is on hold for now. To all those who have participated, thank you for a great time and for sharing your talents. To those looking into performing, please be patient as we navigate these uncharted waters. I've hosted this open mic for about five years now and it's been a real pleasure. I'm hoping to be able to do so again sometime. Be safe, woodshed, write new songs, keep your chops up, and rock on.

John Kelly here. I see this page is getting some visits, so I'd like to welcome you if you're checking out the open mic for the first time. Just to be clear, contrary to the title, the open mic is the SECOND Wednesday of every month, held at the Spring Gate Vineyard on Devonshire Road. Music begins at 6:00 and goes till 9:00-ish. Signup sheet is available before starting time and is first come, first served. House PA is available, so just bring your instrument. We try to give every performer about 20 minutes, so have your best four or five songs ready and we'll see how the timing works out. If you have any further questions, contact John Kelly at [email protected]. This is, to my knowledge, the longest running open mic in the area, and definitely the coolest, thanks to all of you. March 9th is approaching and with it another installment of the only Open Mic Night, 3rd Wednesdays which is actually held on the 2nd Wednesday. Several acts have contacted us about playing that night, so it looks like it's going to be another great evening of music. As always, John Kelly will have the signup sheet available by 6:00. Music will begin around 6:30 and go till around 9:30 or so. We're musicians, not clock watchers. Bring your best material and your best friends and experience one of the better hangs available on a Wednesday in central PA. Hope to see you there!

Despite the snow currently falling, we are still planning on having the open mic at Spring Gate in the Village tomorrow night. Watch this space for any change in schedule, or else we will see you tomorrow evening.

Another open mic night is in the books, and it was a great one. We had another lineup of top shelf performers: 1096 Crazy; Michael Miller and Jerry Tetzlaff; Loren Furster (sp?); the lovely and talented Joreen Kelly making a rare solo appearance; Anne Spangler; the Riders, a father and son duo from Carlisle; Jeff McGaw; and Ghost Town Cinema, featuring Dana and Morgan. This open mic continues to get rave reviews from the performers and the members of the public who attend. Thanks to the folks at Spring Gate in the Village for making such a welcoming performance space, especially Donnie, Ashley and the rest of their great crew. We will do it again next month. Tell your friends. Tell them there's a place in town where you can hear eight high quality local acts, and drink wine, beer or cider at the same time.

Marty is going to be missing this (and the Blue Grass Jam) as I will be in California drinking wine and seeing my son, it's a tough assignment but someone has to do it. Ashley and maybe Jenna will be there. Lucia will have food for the musicians (it won't be pizza), and she will be selling food to the customers. But i'll be looking forward to February's!

As we come up on the Spring Gate in the Village Open Mic Night for this week, just a heads up that there is already quite a bit of interest in peforming this Wednesday, Dec, 9th. I will have the sign-up sheet available at 6:00 and will try to direct traffic such that everybody gets a fair shot at the mic. You may want to keep that in mind and get there early enough to get on the list. It's also good karma for you, being a receptive listening audience for the performers before and after you ;)
