Wild Goose Festival Gathering at the intersection of spirit, justice, music, and art: www.wildgoosefestival.org. WHAT IS THE WILD GOOSE FESTIVAL? WHY WILD GOOSE?
(244)

We are a community creating a festival at the intersection of justice, spirituality, and art. The first festival took place in June 2011. We take inspiration from many places, such as Greenbelt, Burning Man, the Iona Community, SXSW, and others. The festival is open to everyone; we don't censor what can be said; we invite respectful - but fearless - conversation and action for the common good. The Wild Goose is a Celtic spirituality metaphor that evokes unpredictability, beauty, and grace. The festival resonates with this image because we recognize that in the current climate of religious and political division and lack of civility, embracing the creative and open nature of our faith is perhaps our greatest asset for re-building and strengthening our relationships with each other, with our enemies, with our stories, our questions, and the other. In that spirit, in an informal setting, and in the context of creative and respectful relationships, we invite you to imagine a new world with us. WHAT IS WILD GOOSE LIKE? In addition to being a venue for notable bands, high-profile speakers, and a warm, welcoming community, Wild Goose seeks to be a place that inspires justice activism. At a typical day at the festival, an attender might take in a main stage performance, a conversation with a screenwriter and director, a faith dialogue, and dozens of open air conversations under trees, around drinks, and at their campsites. The atmosphere intentionally lowers class and social barriers, creating free interaction between even the most accomplished speakers and attenders. And attenders have the chance to request and host informal conversations about topics they're interested in during the event, which may be attended by producers, seminary presidents, New York Times best-selling authors, and a host of others they wouldn't normally interact with. You are invited to come talk, listen, eat, and camp together as equals, as those who are captivated by the story of Jesus seek to celebrate the rich learning of community, remembering that none of us by ourselves can understand all that is God. These four days are a refreshing investment in how we relate to each other as human beings, how we care for the earth, how we live peace on the planet, and how we reduce violence in our lives and communities. WHEN IS THE WILD GOOSE FESTIVAL? July 14-17, 2022

WHERE IS THE WILD GOOSE FESTIVAL? The event will be hosted at VanHoy Farms & Campground, in Union Grove, NC. Nearby towns are Elkin & Statesville. WHO WOULD GO TO THE WILD GOOSE FESTIVAL?

-Whoever you are, and wherever you come from, and whatever you're looking for, you're welcome at the Wild Goose Festival! WILD GOOSE'S HISTORY:
For the last 20 years, groups of U.S. Americans have flown to England to participate in Greenbelt, an outdoor music festival with spiritual and justice-oriented undertones. Several years ago, a group of people -- some who are now on Wild Goose's board -- were moved by the fact that there was nothing comparable to Greenbelt in the United States. They began studying Greenbelt and learning from their experiences to shape a similarly-inspired event stateside. The result is the Wild Goose Festival, previously held at Shakori Hills in North Carolina. At our debut festival, Jim Wallis, T-Bone Burnett, Phyllis Tickle, Vincent Harding, Over The Rhine, Christian Peacemaker Teams, Brian McLaren, Peggy & Tony Campolo, InterVarsity Press, Restoring Eden, Michelle Shocked, William Barber, Jim Forbes, Gabriel Salguero, Paul Fromberg, Lynne Hybels, and 1,700 others met at the intersection of justice, spirituality, and art. We sang, learned, taught, argued, prayed, ate, danced, and imagined a new world. STAY UP-TO-DATE

Great opportunity you don’t want to miss!

This year we had to take a rain check (literally ☔) on Rev. Kali Cawthon-Freels’ event for Wild Goose Festival, so we are hosting a special webinar event to make up for it!

This session will ask: How can queerness help us understand Jesus? We’ll explore themes in Kali’s newest book A Q***r Gospel: Jesus’s Life through Rainbow Eyes.

I mean they are a faithful sponsor of the festival! Correlation, causation? Anyway big congratulations to everyone involved!

For the second consecutive year, United is thrilled to welcome its largest-ever incoming class of degree-seeking students. With 85 new degree-seeking students, the seminary is celebrating a total fall term enrollment of 288 degree-seeking students and 7 certificate students, representing the largest total enrollment in United’s history.

The seminary’s 65th academic year begins with 25% year-over-year enrollment growth and a staggering 239% increase over fall 2016.

United’s considerable ten-year growth can be credited to its leading-edge academic offerings, widely accessible distance education, and accomplished faculty. The seminary is a bold witness for the common good, preparing innovative leaders for myriad vocational and professional outcomes. From rural congregations to the city hospital’s ICU, United students and alums equip their communities for justice and peace.

Rev. Dr. Molly T. Marshall asserts, “I believe United’s remarkable growth is due to our progressive and relevant curriculum, our theological hospitality, and our accessible educational delivery.” She continues, “We delight in creating space (perichoresis) for everyone who desires formative theological education, a distinctive pursuit among seminaries.”

BE A WILD GOOSE COCREATOR

This Year's Theme Is BELONG
What does BELONG mean to you in 2027?

In a world increasingly marked by division, isolation, and uncertainty, what does it mean to truly belong? Not simply to be welcomed, but to be seen, heard, valued, and embraced without having to become someone else first.

How might your Experience explore our longing for connection—to one another, to our communities, to the earth, and to something larger than ourselves? What stories, assumptions, and barriers keep us apart? How do we move beyond simply finding a place where we belong toward creating a world where everyone belongs?

We invite you to bring BELONG to life through a talk, experiential workshop, courageous conversation, art project, musical journey, meditation, movement, storytelling, or an entirely unexpected Experience.

Where do you belong? Who is missing? And what might we create together when belonging becomes more than an invitation—when it becomes a way of life?

What is the Wild Goose Festival Experience?

It’s notoriously hard to describe. More an experience than an event, Wild Goose Festival blends the energies of a music festival, art exhibit, and social justice and entrepreneurial incubator, spiritual retreat, and more. Maybe like an energy force-field reshaped every year by all that its diverse participants bring; their passions, wisdom, questions, experience, brokenness and creativity. At the Wild Goose Festival, participants risk being in community – opening to soul-shifting connections with people, ideas and visions of the world that is unfolding.

Whatever it is, we all build it together!

So what will you bring?

Got an idea for a group art project?

A play ready for a stage reading?

Know how to host a Dungeons and Dragons campaign?

How about an installation? Would you facilitate a real-time art or science installation during the festival?

Curate a storytelling hour?

Are you a reiki practitioner or do other healing work you’d like to share?

Can you teach us all Carolina S**g dancing?

Have a cool science experiment you’d like to demonstrate?

The possibilities are endless. Can you think of something we haven’t mentioned?

Whatever wonderfully weird thing you’re into, we want you to share it with us!

Entries close at midnight PST, March 1, 2026. We hope to let you know about selections by early May.

See you at the Festival!
