Trip highlight! Our trips to Cactus Creek Ranch are always a blast and the addition of some amazing BBQ from Rio Smoke really makes our Campfire Cookout and Critter Walk trip such an enjoyable experience. Thanks to Mary Jo for protecting her property and always making it available to birders and researchers alike!

Field Trip and Guide Coordinator Justin checking in here to cap off our amazing 2025 festival. We ended up seeing 269 different species during our festival and submitted over 550 eBird checklists (Trip Report in the comments below). From the dry desert scrub upriver, to the rich riparian woodland sanctuaries throughout much of the RGV, to our coastal prairies and mudflats on the gulf coast, our festival visited every nook and cranny of the Rio Grande Valley. Some highlights include Red-billed Pigeon, Groove-billed Ani, Magnificent Frigatebird, Hook-billed Kite, Roadside Hawk, Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, Aplomado Falcon, Rose-throated Becard, Brown Jay, Tropical Parula, Mangrove Yellow Warbler, Morelet's Seedeater, and sooo many more.

I want to make a huge shout out to everyone involved in planning, coordinating, sponsoring, and PARTICIPATING in our festival this year! Special shout out of course to our fantastic suite of guides who bring the best mix of local knowledge as well as guide experience from all over the world. Additionally, our crew of well over 100 volunteers that help make this festival happen over the course of the year are truly the heroes that none of us deserve - THANK YOU!

If somebody at the RGVBF helped provide you with a fantastic experience, please send them some love in the comments here! I for one am endlessly grateful for all of the guides and volunteers who go out of their way to make my job easier every year - THANK YOU ALL!

More posts to come over the coming months to highlight our diverse set of trips from this past year. We'll be back next year - join us for RGVBF 2026 from November 11-15!

The Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival has a trip called Parrot Palazzo where we race around Harlingen looking for parrots and parakeets as they gather to roost for the night. So cool!

We’re already looking forward to the festival next year!

Several individuals have inquired about the posters displaying QR codes. As you enter the trade show you'll see the poster for Marilyn Vincent, our cherished trade show coordinator, avid bird enthusiast, and nurturing presence. This initiative serves as a tribute to the values she embodied within our organization.

Other posters throughout the festival highlight distinct projects, both in Harlingen and across the Rio Grande Valley. They are focused on conservation and education efforts. We encourage you to consider contributing while appreciating the rich diversity of the Rio Grande Valley. You may scan the QR code and donate any amount you deem suitable or submit a check to RGVBF Conservation at the information booth. πŸ¦πŸŒ³πŸ’šπŸŽ‰
