Hello friends and community. One of the many programs and services my employer (Oregon Coast Community Action) provides for our community is South Coast Food Share (SCFS). SCFS provides hundreds of thousands of pounds of food to local pantries up and down our south coast.
By the Numbers (Fiscal Year 2024-2025)
- 36,599 food boxes distributed
- 156,795 meals provided
- Over 457,000 pounds of food delivered to Curry County alone
- 26 percent of people served are children
- 18 percent are seniors on fixed incomes
- Over 67,000 volunteer hours contributed by local community members
These numbers represent neighbors helping neighbors — a reflection of our community’s dedication to ensuring everyone has enough to eat.
- We are in need of your help as we prepare for a very potential loss in our rural communities. -
"The federal government shutdown continues with no clear end in sight. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) warns that if the shutdown lasts past October 31, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) benefits may be disrupted."
Oregon Coast Community Action, South Coast Food Share, and our local food pantries and partners are preparing to meet the high needs of our community and to provide food for those already struggling and those who may face significant loss of food assistance funds.
Our South Coast is resource poor, but we are people rich! We become a force to be reckoned with when we each give a little of ourselves to meet the greater need.
As the director of ORCCA's CASA program, I am very aware of the reality of how food insecurity, and other family stressors, can ultimately lead to child neglect. As stressors in the home compile and get to the point where a parent loses hope, stress makes it really hard to manage our behavior, especially when it's overwhelming. Many adults attempt to mask the stress with substances when things get too much. Every time one of us steps up to help reduce stress in the home of at risk families, we are working toward ending child neglect.
If you can, please donate to this need to help our families and children have food on their tables.
