Two Proposals for Change:
1. If the United States government shuts down, no one gets paid including Congress, the White House staff and Cabinet members, and all judges including the Supreme Court.
2. End the current expensive congressional health insurance. Cover Congress with Medicare.

Biographer Ron Chernow spoke today at the Mark Twain Museum where it was my honor to introduce him before his talk on his latest book Mark Twain. This Pulitzer Prize winner is also the author of Morgan, Washington, Grant, and Hamilton which inspired the Broadway show. The arts are alive and well in Hannibal.

On June 2, 1902, at the invitation of Reverend Doctor Gill, Mark Twain gave a sermon entitled “The Gospel of Good Cheer” at Fifth Street Baptist Church. On Sunday October 27, 2024, Fifth Street Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church are privileged to present a reenactment of this speech.

The two congregations routinely host community events and worship together on fifth Sundays. This upcoming event will feature a variety of games and activities for all ages beginning at 4:00 pm, a free chili supper to begin serving at 4:30 pm and the presentation of “The Gospel of Good Cheer” by Mark Twain actor Richard Garey at 6:00 pm. All events will be held at Fifth Street Baptist located at 111 North 5th Street, Hannibal, MO. Everyone is welcome to attend.
