Directed by Copper Country-raised filmmaker Heather Courtney, this Emmy-winning documentary follows childhood friends from the UP as they join the National Guard, deploy to Afghanistan, and return home.

The kickoff to International Wolf's Head Apprecation Month was a success! 🏆

At our Giant Pumpkin Contest at Canal Colors Fest, we saw a couple great pumpkins that would make Charlie Brown blush. And we saw some other ones that would make Cathy say "Ack!" The most important thing is that we all learned a lot and the madness will only continue. 🎃

WINNER: Ghost House Farm with a 88lb-er ($300 prize)

RUNNER UP: North Harvest | Michigan Farm with a 79lb-er. ($50 prize)

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Andrew Reed with a rot bucket pumpkin and WyndByre Farm 1.1lb-er

BOSCH LEAGUE WINNER: BigGoat Farm with a 42lb goat poop-kin (Bosch t-shirt prize)

All participants were awarded 3-day passes for Wolf's Head Film Festival. You can award yourself similarly with a pass of you own, so you can seek out these great growers and ask them for tips so that you can mercilessly beat them next year using their own methodology, oh and watch some great movies too...

Much like these two movies, we are so different, yet destiny entwines us together like the languid jungle vines draped across the silver screen. Your visage haunts our waking dreams and the fire in our aching soul can only be tempered by being in your presence.

PS: Intermission invites the strong and strong-willed to clasp hands in the most epic of bro handshakes (a la Arnold & Carl) and the silver-tongued to read a short P&P&P fanfic. Best in both wins a 3-Day Pass to Wolf's Head Film Festival (2026).

You thought this was a gag? It's official October is IWHAM (International Wolf's Head Apprecation Month)!

And to celebrate we have events happening EVERY weekend this month.

Oct 2: Giant Pumpkin Competition at Canal Color Fest on the Houghton Pier. Weigh-in at 7p (the gourds will stay on display on the pier the next day)

Oct 3: Pride & Prejudice & Predator at The Orpheum. Wear costumes. Action handshake competition and more. Doors at 3p. Films start at 4p

Oct 11: Special Screening at the Harvest Moon Night Market in Calumet. A collection of classic spooky films, cartoons, and shorts. Films start at 4p.

Oct 17: Where Soldiers Come From 15th Anniversary Screening at The Orpheum. Come see the documentary where WHF Director Daena got his start

Oct 22: Wolf's Head (International) Film Festival (WHIFF) Day 1 - Genre short films and the feature AM/FM with director in attendance with a special musical performance by Qualms

Oct 23: Wolf's Head (International) Film Festival (WHIFF) Day 2 - Genre short films and the feature Dawn of The Dead (1978) with the BTS documentary Jeanie's Face Exploded with director in attendance

Oct 24: Wolf's Head (International) Film Festival (WHIFF) Day 3 - Genre short films and the premiere of Dark Domain: Mickey-v-Winnie (filmed at Open Skies Project) with director in attendance

Oct 24: Zombie Prom at the Hancock Community Hub Gymnasium. Will you come get dressed up like a ghoul and dance the night away with me? Starts at 9p.

Oct 31: Halloween Day. We pulled some strings to put this on a Saturday for you. Invite us to your house party.

This bad boy was seen rolling down the highway in Illinois. Were they headed north on 41 to Canal Colors Fest for the Giant Pumpkin Contest on Oct 2? Maybe. Details were sketchy.

Either way, this could now be YOU. In addition to the $300 Prize Official Giant Pumpkin Champion that will be crowned from our original group of growers (growing the same seeds starting on the same day), we have created a second opportunity to win with a big ol' pumpkin of any variety.

In honor of Brew Street, we are calling it the "Bosch League" Pumpkin Contest.

So we don't care how you got it as big as you did or what varietal you grew. As long as you can get it down to the Houghton Pier by 545p on Friday, Oct 2, we will weigh it (or calculate it's weight if you are really good) and determine the first Bosch League Champion. First place will win a prize courtesy of the Wolf's Head.
