Technology allows us to connect across oceans.
Presence allows us to connect as humans.

As a global Coaching House, most of our work happens virtually. Every once in a while, the work calls for being in the room.

Germany, here we come.

I am looking forward to conversations with leaders, entrepreneurs, engineers, coaches, and teams across industries, and to bringing a few leadership lessons back home to Hawaiʻi.

What leadership challenge are you seeing most often right now?

“Andrea won’t let you get away with untruths or self-deception.” -Eric Gunter

That line made me smile because it captures the magic of coaching.

People rarely enter coaching completely disconnected from their truth.
They simply find ways to explain it away.

What sounds responsible.
What keeps others comfortable.
What avoids disappointing people.

My role is to create enough trust and courage for the real answer to emerge.

And when it does, you can feel it immediately.

There’s peace.
There’s strength.
And there’s no going back.

Once you hear your truth, your next step often reveals itself.

That’s when life moves forward.

One of the most beautiful moments in coaching is when someone stops saying what sounds right.

What their parents wanted.
What their coworkers expect.
What looks impressive on paper.
What feels responsible.

And then there’s a pause.

And the real answer enters the room. And they finally say the thing they’ve known for a while.

You can feel it.
Their body softens.
Their voice changes.
Their energy shifts.

Truth has a very different frequency.
And often, it feels a lot like peace.

Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Today, the IMUA OLA Leadership Team presents a playful take on intercultural greetings.

The video is meant to be lighthearted.

But anyone who works across cultures knows this dynamic is real.
In small moments, people quickly assign meaning.

A greeting can feel too distant.
Too warm.
Too direct.
Too formal.
Too casual.

Assumptions begin.

We often interpret another person’s behavior through our cultural lens and mistake that lens for universal truth.

This happens every day across global teams, leadership rooms, client relationships, and partnerships.

The way forward is curiosity.
Tell me more. How would you prefer to be greeted? What matters to you?

Where have you seen cultural assumptions surface at work?

Every coach needs a coach.

Every year, I make intentional investments in my own growth. I learn from coaches I respect and join experiences that expand how I see the world.

This year, I am joining Cohort #1 of the World Flourishing Organization's practitioner journey. I am glad to be part of this early global exploration of human flourishing through a science- and data-backed lens, with contributions from Harvard University, while learning alongside practitioners from around the world.

What fascinates me most is this:
While elements of flourishing may be universal, the path toward it is often cultural.

Pressure feels different.
Emotions are expressed, managed, and hidden differently.

What supports one person may unsettle another.
What motivates one culture may exhaust another.

We may all want well-being, meaning, and connection.
How we help people get there requires intercultural nuance.

Where have you seen culture shape how people flourish? (or not)

This is what culture looks like in my week: A day in the life of a global coaching house.

Germany, U.S., Hong Kong, Greece, Spain, Mexico, Hawaii.
All in one week. Moving from meeting to meeting, day to day.

I bring my German, U.S. mainland, and Hawaiian cultural patterns to every meeting.
What feels right. What feels off. What feels respectful.

At the same time, I encounter someone else’s patterns.
Their way of feeling.
Their way of expressing.
Their sense of what is right, respectful, or effective.

Every interaction becomes a cultural intersection.

Wow, I love what I get to do every day.

Where in your week do you encounter a different cultural pattern?

I grew up in Germany, in Bavaria. Then I moved to the U.S. mainland, and now I live on the Hawaiian Islands.

What I carry with me, more than anything, are the emotional patterns of the culture I grew up in. They shaped what felt natural, what felt strong, what felt acceptable to show, and what did not.

Over time, I noticed that with each new culture I encountered, things that once felt absolute began to shift.

Emotions are not universal in the way we often think. How we feel them internally, how we express them externally through behavior and action, and what we consider appropriate to share are shaped by culture.
Most of it, we rarely question.

Which of your emotional patterns are shaping you?
Have you ever questioned them?

Multiple truths can exist at the same time.

In your work, different parts of you will surface.

In coaching coaches, I see this:

Scarcity can show up when you price your work.

Fear can show up when a client says no, and sometimes even when they say yes.

Control can show up in how tightly you hold a coaching session and how closely you facilitate it.

And at the same time, we hold love, trust, joy, care, and commitment.

Both are true.

What else is true?

What feels true for you right now?And what else might also be true?

Listen to the voice inside you.

Even when it sounds silly.

At Kimi Werner’s cookbook launch, someone asked her what advice she would give to a woman of the future.

Kimi shared it from a place of experience, as a woman who today balances career, motherhood, partnership, and success, while also remembering times earlier in life when things were far from easy.

Her answer was simple.

Listen to the voice inside you. It knows.

And listen even when it sounds silly.

That line resonated with me.

My inner voice often sounds silly too. Curious. Playful. Sometimes not behaving the way one might expect.

And yet that voice often knows exactly where I need to go.

Leadership lessons appear everywhere. In kitchens, in the ocean, in conversations, and in moments like this.

Learning to recognize and trust that voice is a powerful practice.
