Please join us in welcoming Sam Lambert as one of our judges for Roping in the Pines 2026.

Sam grew up riding horses and working cattle on family property outside of Carmel Valley, where he developed a deep appreciation for the western lifestyle and the values that come with it. Today, he and his wife are raising their two children on her family’s ranch in Central California, continuing the traditions of horsemanship, hard work, and ranching life.

Sam enjoys the horsemanship, stockmanship, and teamwork that make roping competitions unique. Outside of competition, he spends much of the winter and spring helping neighbors and friends work cattle and brand calves.

Many of you may also recognize Sam from the arena, as he was part of the Reserve Champion Open Team at Roping in the Pines 2025, as well as the Reserve Champion Calf Branding Team in 2025.

We are excited to have Sam join the judging crew for 2026 and look forward to the knowledge, experience, and western values he brings to the event.

PMLA Equestrian Center is proud to welcome Davey Fraser as a judge for the Roping in the Pines 2026 competition.

A fifth-generation cowboy, Davey Fraser was born and raised in Tuolumne County, where he grew up with a rope in hand and a deep connection to cowboy tradition. Over the years, he has embraced many aspects of cowboy life and horsemanship, earning respect throughout the region not only as a skilled roper but also as a talented and well-known farrier. His craftsmanship and understanding of horses are widely recognized and valued in local communities.

Davey has a particular passion for vaquero-style roping, appreciating its close resemblance to work in the branding pen—his favorite place to be. Those lucky enough to watch him rope know he brings flair to the arena, often showcasing a fancy loop or two.

We are honored to have Davey back with us this year, bringing his experience, skill, and enthusiasm to the Roping in the Pines 2026. He looks forward to sharing his knowledge and love of roping with our community.

Please join us in welcoming Travis Johnson as the official announcer for Roping in the Pines 2026.

Born and raised in Oakdale, California, Travis Johnson has long been a familiar face and voice in the western community. A 2004 graduate of Oakdale High School and auctioneer school, Travis began his career in the livestock yards, where his natural presence and vocal talents quickly led him into the world of auctioneering and event announcing.

Over the years, Travis has lent his voice to numerous junior and high school rodeos, ranch rodeos, and western events. One of the most meaningful to him was the Reed Welch Ranch Rodeo, held in memory of a close friend and fellow cowboy who lost his battle with cancer. Having also lost his mother to cancer in 2002, Travis brings deep heart and personal purpose to every event he announces—fueled by the enduring spirit of those who inspired him and a commitment to keeping western heritage alive.

Today, Travis is the co-owner of Western Prime 2.0, a western retail store in Oakdale, CA, offering auction services, livestock marketing, and more. He also serves as a field representative and auctioneer for Turlock Livestock in Hilmar and Farmers Livestock Market in Oakdale.

We’re honored to have Travis at this year’s Roping, and we know he’ll bring energy, passion, and a true cowboy spirit to the arena. Good luck to all the contestants!
