Grinnell Historical Museum

Grinnell Historical Museum Our mission is to tell the stories of Grinnell, Iowa, through artifacts and photographs.

On July 30th 1958, the Grinnell Historical Museum Society was created to study, collect, and preserve the history of Grinnell, Poweshiek County, and Iowa. Our non-profit organization was certified by the State of Iowa for the specific purpose of gathering objects of historical interest and importance to preserve them for cultural and educational purposes for present and future generations.

Don't forget that we're offering free museum admission to children 17 and under for the remainder of 2026!

Children must be accompanied by an adult. This applies only to regular admission and not museum events.

Museum hours: Tuesday-Friday: 1-5 p.m. and Saturday: 12-4 p.m.

We are closed Friday for Third Grade Day at the museum! We'll be open Saturday from Noon - 4:00 pm.

The museum will remain open, so do come visit us!

Later this week, the Iowa DOT will close the center lanes of Highway 146 at and near the 1st Avenue intersection for manhole maintenance. Only the outside lanes will remain open, and traffic will be right turn only. No left turns or crossing at 1st Avenue will be possible during this work. Construction on Highway 146 is expected to continue through the summer.
