Like many great ideas, Fright Noise was inspired by something we saw elsewhere. A group in Boerne, Texas created a fun and unforgettable “run” that was perfect for couch potatoes and anyone not interested in a serious competitive 5K. Their Boerne 0.5K was built around fun and raising money for local charity.

After reading about it, I started thinking about how that idea could be adapted into something more meaningful here. The goal was to create an event that would remember those we have lost, celebrate life, and raise money for organizations devoted to mental health awareness and su***de prevention.

At first, we kicked around the logistics. Should it be held in July, around Dwight’s birthday? Could it be called the Clodhopper 0.5K? Or would it make more sense to hold it in October, tying it to the season and to the time when Dwight would DJ as Fright Noise? In the end, October felt right. The weather can be unpredictable, but Dwight loved Halloween, and the name carried the spirit of the event.

The inaugural Fright Noise was held on vacant town property off Broad Street, with New Oberpfalz Brewing serving as our home base. The turnout was strong, the response was positive, and it became clear this was something worth continuing.

Two years ago, we moved the event to Griffith Central Park, giving us more room to grow. The new location has allowed us to expand with vendors, display tables, music, and community participation. Even with that growth, the highlight remains the 0.5K “run.”

Fright Noise is intentionally short and accessible. It does not take up an entire afternoon, but it still creates space for connection, remembrance, laughter, and conversation around mental health and su***de prevention. Most importantly, proceeds continue to support organizations doing meaningful work in those areas.

This year’s Fright Noise will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Griffith Central Park. Pre-race festivities will begin around Noon, with the 0.5K run starting at approximately 1:30 p.m. We look forward to another great day with vendors, mental health organizations sharing resources, musical entertainment, and a community coming together for a purpose that matters.

A little over 6 months until Cinco De Fright Noise, plans are underway. We have many things going on at once for both Fright and Silent Noise.

Naturally, we can always use financial support, Cinco = $5, $5 allows us to provide a few stickers or wristbands for the events.

8 months until Cinco De Fright Noise, make your plans to join us as we raise support for su***de prevention and share the lives of those who left us.

What do we need? Right now, your presence, donations and sponsors, a small street team to get the word out, would love to have vendors who work within mental health, addication, su***de prevention. A couple of food vendors (for real this time) will be lined up for the group.

And, we will be bringing back music, of course the greatest spectacle in non-racing, the .5k

It’s 10:30 a.m.
My heart is heavy.

I’m about to walk out the door and drive to a visitation for a 13-year-old girl from our community who died by su***de.

Thirteen.

It is heartbreaking that someone so young could feel that the only place to find peace was in leaving this world.

There are no easy answers. No single cause. No tidy explanations.
But one thing is clear: we can—and must—do better for our children, our friends, our families, and our communities.

That means listening more than lecturing.
Not dismissing pain because it’s uncomfortable.
Taking mental health seriously before a crisis, not after a tragedy.

Silence helps no one. Compassion does.

If you or someone you love is struggling, help is available.
In the U.S., you can call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline—24/7, free, and confidential.

You matter. Your pain matters. And you are not alone.

Su***de is a complex issue. It is rarely caused by just one thing.
It is often the result of layers of pain, loss, fear, and isolation—until someone believes that un-aliving is the only way to find peace.

Silent Noise was established out of a su***de loss.
From the very beginning, our goal has been simple and intentional: to get accurate information, real resources, and honest conversations into the community—especially for young people.

Over the past six years, we have participated in many community events. We have handed out thousands of su***de-prevention wristbands, stickers, and locker and refrigerator magnets—small, visible reminders that help is available and conversations are allowed.

At Trunk or Treat, we handed out just as many magnets—with the promise they would be placed in lockers—as we did candy. That mattered to us. Visibility matters.

We have also worked to build local connections by helping seed and support youth mental-health chapters in our area, because peer-to-peer awareness and support can make a real difference.

It is natural to be hurt, angry, sad, or mad.
It is natural to blame others—and just as often, to blame ourselves.

Su***de is not a straight road.
It winds. It doubles back. It fractures.
And healing may not look the way we expect—or may never fully arrive.

We don’t need all the answers to show up with compassion.
Sometimes listening is enough.

💜 If you or someone you love is struggling:
In the U.S., you can call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline—24/7, free, and confidential.
If you’re outside the U.S., please reach out to local emergency services or a trusted community resource.

🖤 You are not alone. You matter. And it’s okay to ask for help.

Plans for 2026? Of course Cinco De Fright Noise in October. Music, plan a little earlier to lock in a food truck, and our "run."

As soon as I figure out the moratorium weeks for IHSAA, we will set the date for the XC Run in July/August.

Perhaps a fun social gathering over the summer or towards the holidays.

We could really use sponsors or donors for these events, one of my goals has been to be able to help people who need therapy services but don't have the money to do it, for whatever reason, get some level of mental health care. It is still a goal to assist The Gray Matters Collective set up chapters here in the Region.

Happy New Year and Thank you for your continued support.

The holiday season has ended, back to the routines tomorrow. Shine your light! Even just one can show the way.

Let me take a moment to wish all who follow and have contributed, which is all of you, to Silent Noise. 2026 is going to allow us great growth as we move into year five.

Thank you to those who donated, Tempo Run Timing, Rockopelli, Travelin Toms Coffee, and everyone who helped us out. Mark the date for the last Sunday in October as we prepare for Cinco De Fright Noise!

My advice tonight, play! Get in the car and see all the Christmas lights, go to a Christmas concert, a drive or walk through holiday display. Drink hot cocoa with tiny marshmallows, decorate the tree, enjoy the memories. Go to the park and enjoy what you see. Watch the wonderment of the season through the eyes of a child. If it ever snows again, make a snowman or snow angels, get cold, makes the hot cocoa or cider or toddy so much better.

Do a random act of kindness without telling everyone on social media, let your joy be the gift.
