Our city is hurting.
This past week, Greenville experienced multiple tragedies that no community should have to face. Four separate shootings and young lives lost due to gun violence and negligence. Our hearts are with the families and all who are hurting in our community.
The Greenville Police Department stands with you in that grief. But we also have a responsibility to respond - not just with emotion, but with action.
In every case, our officers and detectives worked with urgency and professionalism. Suspects were identified and taken into custody within hours. These arrests are not the result of luck. They are the product of training, relentless effort and a deep commitment to public safety.
The common denominator in nearly every act of violence we’ve seen in recent weeks is the same: access to fi****ms by individuals who should not have them. Whether it’s teens with unsecured weapons, stolen guns on the street, or felons who continue to arm themselves, the result is the same: lives lost, families shattered, and a community left searching for answers.
While these tragedies demand our attention, they do not tell the full story of the proactive work being done every day.
So far this year, Greenville Police officers have:
• Seized 432 illegally possessed fi****ms
• Made 1,892 arrests
• Conducted 15,795 traffic stops
Just last week alone, we recovered 7 more guns and made 72 arrests during 588 stops. These numbers represent real, tangible prevention — crimes that may never occur because a weapon was recovered or a violent offender was taken off the street. The crimes that don't happen don't make the news. But they matter just as much. Our officers are doing exceptional work, and they deserve the support and appreciation of the community they serve.
But we cannot do it alone.
To every gun owner: Lock up your fi****ms. Store them safely. Take responsibility.
To every parent and caregiver: Know where your children are, who they’re with, and what they’re exposed to.
To every community member: If you see something, say something. A tip today could save a life tomorrow.
We are committed to delivering justice. We are committed to protecting this community. But true public safety requires a community-wide response. One rooted in accountability, awareness, and action.
Greenville is stronger than this moment. But only if we act like it.
