Doodad Farm

Doodad Farm Doodad Farm is dedicated to connecting musicians with music lovers and building community. Here you can feel the music, not just hear it.

Doodad Farm provides a place for our community to experience art and music in a deeply personal way. It is our belief that modern society has created artificial barriers between those who create art and those who experience it, and we seek to reverse that trend. When people come to Doodad Farm for the first time, they immediately recognize that something is different, that this is no ordinary venu

e. What they’re feeling is the love that was built into this place by volunteers, who all pitched in to make Doodad Farm happen just because they believed in the idea of it. We are not here to make a profit – we’re here to help dedicated artists bring their art to people who appreciate it, and to help those artists support themselves. We never charge for admission, because we feel that everyone should have access to art, regardless of income. We do ask for donations, of which every cent always goes to the performers. Most know Doodad Farm as a concert venue, but we’re here to support community art in every way. If you need a space for a non-profit event, like music instruction, band practice, jamming, etc., just ask and we’ll try our best to provide the space and schedule you need. If you’re doing good work, then we want to support you. We’ve worked hard to build this place, and the more it can be used for the good of the community, the better. All we ask is that you leave the place the way you found it. Doodad Farm pays its bills by renting the space out for weddings, parties, reunions and retreats. Please keep us in mind as a resource for such events. We’re only one minute from I-40 and super easy to access from anywhere in central/Piedmont North Carolina. We’re always looking for support from the community we serve. If you would like to volunteer to help with an event, or participate in one of our work days, please contact us. We often have use for building materials and landscaping materials, too. Sorry, but because we have relatively few shows a year, we can't respond to every solicitation for booking. We generally approach bands ourselves and offer them shows here. If you're interested in seeing how a bunch of energetic volunteers turned an old log tobacco barn into a very cool music venue, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY-y3kDOTOg&feature=g-upl

Since Doodad Farm happens to be smack dab in the middle of an especially diverse and supportive music community, finding creative and talented bands to play at a fundraising tribute is as simple as reaching out and asking for help. Our goal for this annual event is always the same: show the audience a good time while having a good time ourselves, and raise as much funds for our sponsored organizations without corporate involvement.

This video shows many of the artists who will take our stage this Sunday, but not all of them. Some have yet to be revealed, because they're part of a band and not listed separately. Some, like Sam Frazier, are perennial musicians at our tributes, while others are making their first appearance. Part of the fun is watching the musicians connect with each other, so in way we're helping to build the music community.

So please come out, enjoy a beautiful day of music, fun, and just plain silliness, and support the good work of the Arc of High Point.

These posters are all over town to let folks know about our upcoming annual tribute fundraiser. They also reveal, for the first time, all of our regional artists who are donating their time and talents to this tribute to raise funds for the Arc of High Point. Ranging from solo acts to full bands, these musicians will deliver their versions of songs from 1976. In a way, every one of our tributes is a celebration of our diverse and caring music community.

If you'd like to print out a few of these posters and slap them up at your workplace or elsewhere, you'd be one of many helping us to make this a great day of celebration.

Hot damn! The sun broke out just as the sound check began. The Bigdumbhick Trio sounds outrageous good.

Sorry, songwriter friends, but we’re going to scrub this Thursday’s songwriter circle. Our road remains a sheet of ice, and it’s not going to thaw much in the next few days. Here’s hope that all of you have some winter down time to write some great songs for next month!

Normally our songwriters’ circle is on the last Thursday, but this month it’s the third Thursday (12/18) for obvious reasons. So come on out at 7pm with a song or two that you wrote (or cowrote). You’ll get a chance to play your songs and hear the musical creations of other local songwriters. It’s always fun and enlightening, plus it’s a great way to connect with our music community. All are welcome!

Park anywhere in front of the house at 4701 Land Road, Greensboro. Call Dean at 336 260-7999 if you have any questions.

Most of the time at our monthly songwriters’ circle, our guests present solo versions of songs they’ve written. Occasionally, though, our songwriters conspire to join forces to deliver a song, as these two (Tim and Jack) did last month. At other times, our performer will request some vocal harmonies, and the whole room joins in like an impromptu choir. We do have a rule against unsolicited noodling on others’ songs, because that can throw off the performer.

If you’ve never been to our circle, please know that you’re welcome here. Songwriting can be a lonely process, so it’s particularly nice to hang out with other writers once in a while, play a few songs, and have a few laughs.

Our default time slot is the last Thursday of every month, but due to the holiday season, we’re shifting our time to the third Thursday (11/20 and 12/18). So we’ll see y’all this Thursday at 7pm. Just park out front and come in the front door of the house. It’s okay to bring your own drinks and snacks, too.

Call Dean at 336 260-7999 if you have any questions or need a pep talk.

Here’s a photo from our most recent songwriters’ circle (10/30). It was a big one , with something like 25 songwriters here. Among the group were three who were here for their first time, along with lots of others who we consider regulars. It was a particularly good night of original songs and conversation. For the record, our average gathering has maybe 9-15 folks.

Due to the holidays in November and December, we’ll be moving our circles up one week (they’re usually on the fourth Thursday). So we’ll host the circles on 11/20 and 12/18. Y’all come if you can!

This Thursday (10/30) at 7pm, Doodad Farm invites songwriters of all levels to join us for an evening of sharing songs and fellowship. All are welcome, even if you just want to sit and listen.

Due to the weather, it’s looking like an indoor event, so park out front and come to the front door. You’re welcome to bring your own beverages and snacks.
